Super and others who have mentioned curveballs or left field

"I do expect the unexpected. I thought they may acquire things along the way but not a sniff of that one, left field event for me."

Maybe not, but to be fair the intention WAS hidden in plain sight. As I said before, page 13 of the recent annual report states quite clearly:

"Our well defined set of strategic objectives

We are looking to continue and build upon the momentum created last year, to make significant progress this year.

Our objectives for the current financial year are to:

1) Identify and acquire majority stakes in companies capable of commercialising graphene applications.

We are continually looking at potential acquisitions both in the UK and Europe to further expand our global presence and add to our range of 2-D materials.

2) Sign application development agreements with customer

We are continually looking to build new relationships with global companies to incorporate graphene into their applications. We have signed six new collaborations already in the current year, and expect this trend to continue.

3) Commence commercial production of graphene in quantity for specific applications

We look forward to receiving the results of our current collaborations and be in a position to commence production on a larger scale when required. Through purchase of plant in the year and more on order, we will be well positioned to fulfil potential orders.

4) Identify opportunities for international expansion

With the support from the UK Government provided through the secondment of its Head of Outward Direct Investment, we have a great opportunity to be able to seek and progress markets overseas."

So I wonder how many more 'potential acquisitions' are being looked at? Maybe a question for the AGM but I'm not sure if an answer would be forthcoming...

Following on from Vas`s find

"Gnanomat enters agreement to develop graphene-based materials for batteries
Gnanomat logoGnanomat, the Spain-based developer and manufacturer of added value nanomaterials for a variety of applications, has announced the signing of a collaboration agreement with HydraRedox Iberia, a Spanish SME formed to develop, manufacture and commercialize large scale batteries based on a proprietary vanadium-redox technology.

Under this agreement, Gnanomat will develop, optimize and manufacture custom advanced materials that will be utilized in Hydra Redox Iberia’s vanadium redox batteries. During the collaboration, development teams from both companies will work together to design and develop advanced nanomaterials, including graphene-based ones."

So more googling material

"HydraRedox Iberia" anyone?

Exemptions from the SSR

Market makers and authorised primary dealers may not have to comply with these obligations when undertaking market-making activities in the instruments and using an exemption from the SSR.

the mm will have a wide spread when they close a short locking in pi + no holding rns & no orders the share price will fall below the placings.

ellis - The synergies between VRS and Gnanomat in terms of graphene-based offerings look very good indeed in my view. But I also think that the management and entrepreneurial culture suits VRS - just look at the breadth of expertise in the management team -

If I had to guess - and I am just guessing - I'd guess an EV/battery deal tied to the Spanish majority stake, a Welsh graphene valley deal and then - with a MC somewhere between £1bn and £3bn by that stage - a China deal at a sensible company valuation. And maybe some other orders (perhaps DDP/Unilever/Continental) thrown in there somewhere for good measure too...

elliss - 'blows the markets socks off ?' - where did that come from?

personally, I wouldn't rule out more news Mon/Tue morning.

Start a new contract Tue, so (probably) won't be able to follow blow-by-blow accounts from the AGM. Have to save it up to read on the train home...

Been completely out the loop this last week - Just back from small village in corfu where wife managed to drop both iphones in the Med on first day there! - Getting up in time for return taxi to airport at 4am finally rested on 2.5 Euro alarm clock from only wee shop in town ( It ran at least half an hour slow every 24hrs)

Now caught up on all post RNS EMails - First impressions? - the meteoric rise in VRS share price seems to have enabled fabulous value for money purchasing power re snapping up cutting edge 2D tech Co`s for an absolute relative steal - approx 1% dilution of mkt cap indeed!

Long may it continue - & this primary bid route? - What a way to fund purchases

At this rate, the true value of VRS may be in its ability to snap up such cutting edge app Co. bargains for a relative song & lets face it, VRS are one of the only Co.s out there able to put a value on these outfits & spot the gems in the rough

The graphene production side might just end up being the icing on the cake...

Nice bit of risk spreading as well - These apps Cos may end up being Unicorns in their own right

This exerpt from t. Mays recent speech at zero emissions summit looks like the sort of thing UK business needs in this area. Best ellis

'So this afternoon I am hosting an Automotive Investment Roundtable with leading supply-chain companies from Germany, the USA, Japan, China, Spain and India, to explore what more we can do to accelerate the development of a zero-emissions market – and to highlight the UK’s offer. Today demonstrates that the government’s commitment and comprehensive strategy has given businesses the confidence to invest and to innovate, and help deliver the zero-emission transition for the benefit of us all.'

SG

I'm more surprised that Neill has pulled this off than anything else. I really started to keep my eye on Gnanomat ( a private company)from the beginning of this year when they made this announcement -

If you also scroll below the article you'll see.........:-) I don't remember seeing that VRS promotion in January but I could be wrong.

I think we can now see the stages to the build up to 'industrial level' production starting to take shape. We know that Neill looks out a long way and clearly knows where he wants to take the company, but we can now see the pieces falling into place post-Brexit - namely a plan to have production facilities in the UK, Europe,China/Asia and North America. That seems to be VRS's plan from what I can see - and the majority stake in Gnanomat just goes to show how valuable Gnanomat see the tie-up, and they know all about the Cambridge/Manchester facilities so no surprise there.

This deal undoubtedly gives Neill and VRS in particular visible 'clout' in the graphene space. It may be one step in Neill's 'Grand Scheme of Things', but it makes a hell of a lot of sense in my view.

What we are seeing unfold is organic growth. Identify the areas which can benefit us then get in on the cheap and let the economies of scale take over.A good synergy. Most of the continents are now covered by Neill now the train will just head in one direction and will gather speed as it moves.
