pierrethe p&o website on the matter is clear as mud, but yes i followed that process as recently as two weeks ago, i also got it in writing from them that a private home test was acceptable - although how that would have helped at the time of boarding i cant imagine, why they cant put that on the website i dont know...no one checked it btw, some boats should probably have stricter testing and masking requirements - those that dont disembark all passengers, azura for example has been on/off loading half the boat weekly for months now - so a breeding ground for the virus if ever there was one

Our next cruise is on princess, and their requirements are for an observed pre cruise test up to 3 days before. (So stan's test is not acceptable).I looked up Cunard's new requirement( before, they did the test before boarding, now you DIY). They specifically state an observed test isn't necessary, so stand test is acceptable for Cunard (if I'm reading things correctly). So thanks, if nothing changes I can have a cheap test for my Cunard Christmas cruise.Any sense in all that? Carnival say you need an expensive observed test for princess, but a cheap not observed (so easy to fiddle) test for Cunard. The requirements vary depending where you board, where you're going and your vaccination status. Stan must have a hell of a lot of hassle in his life if he thinks negotiating these testing requirements isn't major hassle.

Have you done that particular test and used it to board a cruise Stan?Afaiia, I hope that's the case, but the requirement according to the docs is for an observed test, by an approved lab, by qualified staff who also check your passport is yours, and issues an observed for to fly certificate. Lots getting to the cruise with non qualifying tests and having to take another test for £60 just before boarding. (Btw, it's a money making scam, not anything to do with safety Imv. Loads till catch covid on board, but the jab requirement makes it mild, not dangerous).

you buy a test from randox for about 12 quid, you take the test in your own home, you take a photograph of the result with their easy to use app, you get your result in one hour, you have a three day window to do this, it is not considerable hassle, buying and taking the tests takes 5 mins total...

Not sure what to make of this, but the cruise I'm on a waiting list for has come back on the market at twice the price. That's the july iceland one. wtf? Looks like i wont be on that then. So managed to get booked on the queen Vic on the cruise before christmas at a reasonable price. We've done pre christams cruises before - great time to sail, low demand so low price, and as the cruise goes on, the christams decorations appear, more every day (and they are quite impressive on cunard).

Cunard have now stopped the free pre-cruise testing, so everyone has the hassle and cost of organising that - madness. Worked fine getting tested by cunard just before boarding - but now you have to negotiate the genuine and criminal test companies, and then the considerable hassle of doing the tests and getting the right paperwork in tight timescales.

I would refer you to buywell3's chart above (post 3884) and his most recent channel. If we read this right the price has hit the bottom of the channel and we could expect a rise now to just over 13.00. I am not a TA pundit but I have my fingers crossed. Any comment? S

Thanks for that, reassuring they don't need to use all the sale proceeds for running costs

It isn't like a usual share buy back. This was from the last full year results:

"During 2021, under the Stock Swap Program, we sold 8.9 million shares of Carnival Corporation's common stock and repurchased the same amount of Carnival plc ordinary shares resulting in net proceeds of $19 million, which were used for general corporate purposes."

Which seems like a reasonable bit of business even if $19M is drop in the ocean in the scheme of things.

Thanks, it's a shame we can't see how many US shares are being sold to fund the buy back

It's confusingly called a cash return to shareholders. No, or little, direct benefit to CCL itself, but a benefit to shareholders due to the price being driven higher by the buys. Bye bye.Indirect benefits are a demonstration of the cash generation, s willingness to return excess cash to holders, more tax efficient debt/cash/accounts etc.
