Prof. John Yeh representing the executive committee of the
Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) Summer
Scholarship Program donated US$4000 to the Chinese Language Center
(CLC) of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), to express his
commitment to the university on August 1.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su on behalf of the school
received the donation and expressed her appreciation for the long
and continual support.
She also said, “The TUSA program has made its own reputation to
be one of the very outstanding program itself and the significance
of the support from Prof. Yeh is already well-noted by even the
government officials in the States and as well in our ministry of
education.”
The money will go to extend Chinese (Mandarin) teaching programs
at CLC and to produce the final presentation video for TUSA
students, according to CLC.
Yeh said, “The support by people here in the university has been
very critical for the growth of the TUSA program and my father and
mother both are very grateful to the school for the very strong
support and the educational efforts for the students.”
He also pinpointed, “Unless you did such a great job for the
students for the last 4 years in NCKU, we would not be in the
position to be able to talk about making it even better. “
“The program has grown because you’ve done a very good job of
helping the students and when they go back they tell friends about
it,” said Yeh adding, “ Several of the students are continuing to
do what they called internship after they go back to the United
States, they’re doing the internship to support the program.”
A total of 55 American students from 31 states with 41
universities participate in the TUSA program this year, according
to CLC.
“The representation of different states has grown,” according to
Su, “and it has more profound standing in terms of the impact of
the program.”
Yeh said, “In June my father visited Boston and worked with the
government of Maine so Maine is added in June as sister-states. He
is hoping to meet the governor of Massachusetts at the end of
August. If it’s successful, there will be 19 states joining the
program.”
