Skinny, yes I've seen two series of that one.

Interesting stats from this morning...

Britain’s worklessness crisis is “truly dire,” the Work and Pensions Secretary has said, as Labour faces the challenge of kick starting Britain’s employment market.

Liz Kendall blasted the latest jobs figures from the Office for National Statistics, which showed that nearly 9.4m people were classed as economically inactive in the three months to May.

Of those, more than 2.8m people remained out of work due to long-term sickness.

Both figures are close to record highs, while Britain’s unemployment rate remained at 4.4pc, its highest level in three years.

Ms Kendall said the UK was “standing alone as the only G7 country where the employment rate is still not back to pre-pandemic levels”.

My wife persuaded me to continue watching the new BBC drama 'The Jetty' . Glad she did as it's got much better. I definitely called it wrong. One episode left to watch :-)

Good morning. Sunny start but now high cloud and muggy.

Traffic has been really busy in the late afternoon here - people getting ready to rush off on holiday, perhaps?

Much warmer here - air con in the car needed for the first time in a while.

Finished down about -0.12% SUP biggest loser, no real winners.

Some interesting stuff in the Kings speech, finally getting rid of the last remaining hereditory peers - think some of the previous appointments should be looked at in more detail, and I'd get rid the religious ones too.

Global stocks have fallen amid fears that the US could launch a trade war with China.

Technology stocks have plunged - with Wall Street expected to open later with sharp losses - after reports that the Biden administration plans tighter import controls on companies that share chip-making technology with China.

The S&P 500 is on track to drop by 1pc and the Nasdaq by 1.6pc at the opening bell in New York.

Meanwhile the FTSE 100 was down 0.1pc, the Dax in Germany was down 0.7pc and the Cac 40 in France had dropped 0.6pc.

It follows an unconfirmed report that President Joe Biden is considering using a wide-sweeping regulation, the foreign direct product rule, to further restrict sales of critical chipmaking equipment to China, according to Bloomberg.

Worst falls: UU. -3.67%, BHP -2.62% and RIO -2.33%.

Best rises: SMDS +3.45%, KGF +2.39% and TATE +1.22%.

Been to Tonbridge to see a friend for lunch. Quite a bit of rain going, but less coming back. I'm off to Cambridge tomorrow for a conference, Wednesday pm and Thursday am, with a dinner on Wednesday night. Normal service will resume on Tursday evening.

It is an England only problem at the moment. 10,000 GPs unemployed come August.
Some GPs are now driving taxis and working in Tesco!
Feel free to Google 'unemployed GP'.
Also what may seem trivial often isn't...that cough/cold could be lung cancer for example.
Look up Emily Chesterton also.

Justice, I don't know which part of the UK you are from, but, here in Scotland there is a shortage of GP's, in fact there are increasing GP vacancies. I know of no GP's that are unemployed. I agree that the exhorbitant salaries paid to NHS Managers and Chief Execs is rediculous, but, Consultants in the hospitals are paid between £100-£150k, they often supplement their NHS earnings with private work, those that do will be earning over £200k pa easily. GP's are very well paid too, particularly those in partnerships. My wife was a Nurse Partner in her previous employment and was therefore privy to the GP's earnings of approximately £250,000 pa.

Using well trained Nursing staff to supplement the work of the GP's is a good thing in my opinion, I have had a very good service from the Nurse Practitioners in my local GP Practice. Lets be honest, most of the work done by GP's and Nurse Practitioners is fairly routine stuff, coughs, colds, infections etc, if using Nurses to deal with the routine frees up appointments for GP's to deal with the more complex conditions surely this can only be positive for patients.

Mrs A still has a friend in "make-work" (according to her) from home in the NHS because they can't afford to make her redundant (from an administration managers job). I'm baffled how you can't afford to make someone redundant. Surely it should be that you can't afford to pay people good salaries to fanny about at home!? She does do work from time to time. I've just not worked out what it is yet or how much. I must ask for more detail next time. It seems a funny carry on when I have 5 weeks between each scan and the subsequent results discussion - 9 weeks in the latest case after my first examining GP now wants to discuss my ultrasound, after a non-examining different GP discussed it with me and wondered why he'd been asked to intervene.

+0.2%. DEC perky again. Not much else happening.

There was a bit of sun briefly this afternoon that felt very warm but gloom and unexpected showers were more the order of the day. 21.0C after 14.3C.
