How are you going to get as fit as other teams if you play slow pass it sideways and backwards football all the time? Bradford always looked unfit under Hughes when we met more direct teams, and we conceded lots of late goals. Fitness improved under Alexander, playing his more direct style with the same players, and conceding late goals stopped. Hopefully, this will continue next season.

Good morning. Slightly damp but brighter and warmer.

Pity the poor Chinese with growth only 3-4% higher than ours.

Robert Walter Q2 recruitment figures were very poor but not as dire as Q1. Does -21% going to -15% count as good news? (UK went from -20% to -18%.)

wllm, thanks for updating.

Lovely walk in the sunshine this morning along the Grand Union canal. Plenty of blackberries picked as well.

Deserved win for Spain tonight against another disappointing England performance. Worthy tournament winners for sure with seven wins.

Thanks wllm. Well that was a depressing day. Disappointing mens final and England couldn’t quite do it though Spain were worthy winners. As for trumps shooting, depressing that it happened, worse is the conspiracy theories from both sides. Truth appears to be a worthless commodity.

Good morning. Same gloomy, drizzle in a northerly here and cold with it again. Mrs A's turn to put the heating on this morning. Currently 12.9C outside and not budged in the last hour.

After ignoring for 3 months, I've checked the energy use against billing for the Q2/Q3 tariff reduction and they don't seem to have allowed for cold weather in their estimates for previous months. We are £500 in credit but they are slightly behind on electric and rather more behind on gas so our real credit is only about half that amount. The extra gas use does not surprise me with numerous heating boosts on all those grey mornings but our electric use has been extremely consistent in the past. The family shower is not running on minimum or mostly economy mode this summer as usual. It's actually INCREASED to number 3 or 4 in the last week, due to the noticeably colder than average tap water supply, and I reckon it is this that is showing in the bill. I presume most people up and down the country will see the same for their electric showers, though they won't all have three adolescent boys that like to linger in them.

Thanks, wllm.

DLG letting me down hence slipping down the table... hopefully they turn upwards before year end!

Blue Skies here! See how long that lasts.

Windows and doors were replaced in the week, now thinking about which job to do next.

This is the third year I've been posting about our low sea temperatures but it's not all of the UK. The northern 2/3rds seems to have been getting colder - often up to 1.5C below average, while the southern 1/3rd has remained significantly warmer than average, typically about 1C or so. Overall, it's only a bit below average but we're coming off a couple of decades of above average UK sea temperatures so it feels much colder up North (falling 2C or so). I keep say how pigging cold the sea is when I try go into it. I was hoping global warming would warm Yorkshire bays enough to make for comfortable swimming (17C+) but they've gone the other way (Scarborough 13.9C, Hull 12.9C).

What happened to the forecast of warming weather into a nice weekend? It's cold and drizzling here. It's not reached 13C yet. We've started getting that condensation on the windows you get in September until the heating dries textiles out. It's has been cold all week and only 17.5C inside this morning with no sign of lifting so, after holding off on my own for a couple of days wearing long trousers and an extra layer, I've given in and put the central heating on for the family in July for the first time ever. Tomorrow looks set to be little better.

Have a good break, MrP. Maybe your departure will kickstart summer for us? :-)

Nice finish to the test. Pity Anderson dropped that catch.

Plenty of sunshine but slightly cooler 19C , still ok for shorts in the garden. Good year for our redcurrants . Picked a few early blackberries on an afternoon local walk.

Lunch out tomorrow at a Polish restaurant in Hammersmith then on to the William Morris Museum. Hike on sunday then C'mon England :-)

Beef lasagne and salad tonight with a bottle of cabernet sauvignon.

Hardly budged. Can't believe STCM actually closed down on a very promising trading update. Nobody seems to have noticed it. YTD +3.9%.

Been on the bike to visit the bank. Did ok considering the breeze and being on it yesterday. Few walkers but more cyclists than I've ever seen for some reason. It helped keep me warm on a cold day with regular spotting but never wet. 14.2C after 10.1C. Are we sure it is not early October? Some of the potatoes are yellowing, but then Anyas are early croppers so maybe I could try lifting one.

Have a good weekend.
