Good morning.

Skinny, the York area has the best traditional pub scene in the North - to cater for international tourists - but its expensive and you can still see the Ale provision deteriorating. It will help me keep my weight down until I can find time to start home brewing.

PAGE results and profit warning are alarming. This is a bellwether stock and it suggests most places outside of India are in recession and deteriorating.

Replacement windows and doors being fitted today and tomorrow - hope the weather doesn't get in the way!

Not raining at the moment - see how long that lasts.

Good Morning.

We look to have had a fair bit of rain overnight.

Aleman - its pretty hit and miss around here, with plenty of 'pubs' not always having Ale in stock - they seem bemused to my comment 'that's not ale' when offered one of the plethora of sterilised lagers.

There are a couple of pubs that still do a reasonable pint of London Pride @£5.10 a pint.

I'm down -0.332% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.127%).

Worst falls: S32 -3.81%, BHP -2.15% and WDS -1.69%.

Best rises: LLOY +1.27%, ADM +1.01% and TW. +0.92%.

Miners and oils down, especially my 3 Aussie shares. Labours housing policy has perked up TW.

Got part of the back lawn cut this afternoon, although it was spotting slightly with rain. I am nearly ready to demolish my no-mow-May (June & July) patches. Orchids now past flowering in the main.

Enjoy Wimbledon MrP. I’ve won tickets a couple of times and think it’s great value.

Was up 0.6% this morning but all fell away to leave me up less than 0.1%

Kitw continued its recovery, VLX/CLI biggest fallers. Cancelled weds tennis to watch the football.

Portfolio -0.26% , late falls took my lot in to the red , RSW, BP, SGRO, SHEL and VSVS the big fallers..... Gainers ABF, HILS and HLN.

Housework today and actually got one load of washing completed. Local walk this afternoon. Nobody about. Cloudy all day and a slight mizzle now and again 16C . Got away with shorts and a t-shirt.

Skinny, some worrying stories there.

Watched that new series on BBC2 last night 'Turkish Detective' - very disappointing.

Fish fingers, chips and beans tonight. A bottle of red will go well with that lot :-)

Skinny - I had a pint of Theakston XB on the way home from the football tournament. It was unrecognisable from the 80s version and could have been any other middle of the road, bland, metallic, watery pint, with a slight yeasty haze like most get served with these days.

bl - I used to track hurricanes in Houston when I was a kid. Beryl does not look like a Cat 1 on Texas landfall. The whole difference between a tropical storm and a hurricane was the development of an eye. The lower wind speed limit was set to capture where an eye typically developed. Cat 1 hurricanes eyes might be misshapen and wobble but they were clearly there to see, even if occasionally intermittent. I've checked all the satellite images and no eye develops for Beryl. It's harder to determine the storm centre - and hence its track - with no eye. In the 70s, I'm pretty sure this would have been defined as a tropical storm but they have been tinkering with definitions.

-0.1% for me.

Had to raise the mower setting to finish the lawn. 17 bags was a hefty haul. I'm sure it would have been a record on a regular setting. I don't mind moss but it is hard to mow when it has good growing weather. Sunny and warmer today, though, and slightly muggy as cloud increased. Had a good bike run but cycle paths are getting almost too overgrown to use in places - and dangerous when you get bramble shoots off low branches at head height - always wear glasses for these and midges! 21.7C after 7.9C.

Still sunny here, despite cloudier weather on the way.

Thanks wllm for the standings.

Highest %age mover this morning is CPI.

Labour were elected in this constituency, despite my forecast, turnout 73%.
The new MP is an outsider.
Conservatives had held this seat uninterrupted for 70 years.

Good morning.

Thanks, wllm.

Carlsberg buys out its minority stake in Carlsberg Marstons Brewing (Marstons brew nothing now) and also Britvic/Robinsons in a separate deal. So the chemical beer company has now owns the chemical soft drinks company - a good fit. Our pubs are dying because of these brewing giants that have bought up nearly all the competition. Most well known smaller brands are brewed in a few megabreweries now and many are now keg with creative marketing. The real ale has been so compromised that it tastes little better. You can have overpriced dishwater or nothing.

No.3's team got to the final of the football tournament. No academy teams were allowed but we lost 2-0 to a team with academy players in it - like watching a mini professional team. We had our chances, though. I stood for 8 hours, in warm sun or hiding under a gazebo from surprisingly cold rain. My knees hurt and I fell asleep for the night straight after dinner. So garden jobs still need doing when it dries out later. (Need to get the mower through a 2/3rds remainder of a thickly mossy lawn, after finding the first 1/3rd tough going. Moss is doing very well here in this cool damp weather.)

We had a little condensation on the windows this morning. Only 4.1C at Topcliffe earlier. Sun and little wind should give a warmer day.
