I suspect the interested party offered circa 600p and was politely told to stop undervaluing the Company, make a more realistic offer or go away. This they have done (withdrawn) and the opportunity to invest by a Director who knows far more than us, has been taken.

If I hadn't got so many I'd be following their lead. After all £242k is no mean sum and is clearly signposting to everyone wishing to make a sound investment decision. As Euro says, we'll know soon enough (Nov).

Thanks for the comment Fenners. Phoenix and MNG may crack 10% but a mainly bond based fund yielding 13.8% that is trading at slightly less than the NAV quoted in August is difficult to comprehend. I've sent Aviva Investors an email to get an explanation.

Whilst the fund above at 13.8% yield does sound too good to be true , looking at the yields on offer here and at say Phoenix or M&G etc I am minded to remember the not too distant past picking up a copy of Chronic Investor where the lead article was about how to average 10% across a portfolio and being disappointed that the article was a follow up to one that had previously aimed to get 12%.

We have gotten used to low interest rates but that used to be if not entirely the norm , then a good target.

AV have never denied the rumours, which would indicate something is on the cards and until we get news one way or another traders are hesitant to take positions.

“buying just, av, mng, l&g etc takes much less time. the us PE and alt asset mgrs will take over in time”

Do you also include Phoenix in this list of undervalued BPA companies? Are they also not quite big players?

And the Phoenix share price seems to be much weaker recently than Aviva, or L&G, or M&G

Do you think this price weakness for Phoenix is justified or not?

I'm assuming most here are income investors so asking if anyone here holds the Aviva Investors Distribution Class 2 Income Fund? Came across it while perusing Trustnet funds and the 13.5% yield caught my eye. Thought it was a misprint at first and had to check the fact sheet to be sure. It's an OIEC which is 60% bond based with a reasonable 0.73% ongoing charge. As a fund it's almost exactly where it is going back over the last 10 years. But, quoting the factsheet as at 31/8/23 it's Distribution yield of 13.8% "reflects the amount that is expected to be distributed over the next 12 months as a percentage of the share price of the fund on the date shown". Considering the unit price is less now than it was at the quoted date of 11/8 this looks too good to be true. I need to diversify and this would help, or am I reading it all wrong? Seems a big yield from a mainly bond based fund - all comments welcome.

maybe revor…too far away and opaque for me. mng is still the singularly most undervalued. whats nice about uk / eu insurers is they tell you everything you need to know pretty much. turns out ifrs17 has added a bit of info - not much , more validation. but with own funds, ocg, etc you have it all. aviva is at a premium to chesnara, mng, understandably as its more investable (larger) but actually similarly cheap.

it wont be many years till they are all taken out. gaining a primary licence in uk bpa takes 2 years or so. buying just, av, mng, l&g etc takes much less time. the us PE and alt asset mgrs will take over in time.

I always thought Prudential would be the FTSE insurer to attract bid activity, after it divested M and G and Jackson. It's a pure life play geared to the fast growing populations of the Far East, and wondered if AIG, or one of the Chinese insurers, would snap it up at its present bargain price.

Whatsup32, your investment is sound! I have some from a while back at 438, never lost a second of sleep over it. In fact if I could be bothered I'd probably see the dividends have since covered that temporary paper loss. I'm waiting on my dividends to be transferred from AJ Bell to II to buy more, pension transfers seem to take forever, and the delay has helped me.... This time.

Dr. Bio

I'll hold my hand up and admit I was sold the takeover story and paid 425p to buy more. It was with dividend money so only 2% of my total holding.
However it doesn't seem to have Effected Av negatively.

Aviva PLC (LSE:AV.) is reportedly in talks to take over the consumer operations of rival RSA, despite Aviva being a takeover target in its own right.

USB said Aviva has the requisite cash and capital to make a bid somewhere in the £500 million to £700 million bracket.

As for a potential takeover of Aviva itself (Allianz, Intact and Tryg are being cited as possible buyers), UBS puts a 525p to 680p price tag on the deal, conforming to a speculative 600p takeover price mentioned in the press.
