A nice article in Guardian re takeover rumours.

New article.

The Chairman would not have been allowed to buy if an approach had been made by 25th September.

Perhaps an approach will spring out over this weekend.

Not sure. A big company like Aviva must constantly have rivals and suitors evaluating and asking questions and doing due diligence to varying degrees. Directors would never be able to buy if it was a very strict interpretation. If the rumours are true something more concrete has hopefully happened in last week or two.

I thinking the wording “significant effect” on share price is the key and maybe on the 25th things were not quite at that stage.

Insider info "if it were made public, would be likely to have a significant effect on the prices of those financial instruments or on the price of related derivative financial instruments (that is, it is information that a reasonable investor would be likely to use as part of the basis of their investment decisions)"Think we can safely say that if discussions were underway on 25th Sept that the Chairman would not have bought

Alphorn

What do you mean ‘marked down’? Surely that would only occur post offer or an official RNS.

A serious predator's shares would (normally) be marked down on an acquisition of size. Have not seen anything reported.

I don’t think the Chairman buying on 25 Sep has much bearing. These things can move or crystallise into something meaningful very quickly and no doubt a number of parties have been in loose dialogue and working on due diligence for some time. I’m not exactly sure what triggers a closed period but it must be a real intention to proceed or an offer of some sorts. Mere due diligence can’t be sufficient.

Any corporate lawyers out there?

You know what annoys me?
The constant UKREG news about holdings in companies (see above).
I mean, who cares.

Chairman bought shares on 25th Sept. It's either very early days and chats have just started or it is just rumour. No way we're discussions happening little over a week ago

Just reinvested the divi and a bit more over a couple of hours as a punt, these owe me after holding since GA days.Really the lack of denial and the fact the yield is still good at this price if it's a hollow rumour.

Just checked the AVIVA web site and no announcements made this afternoon so far to scotch any market gossip.

Anyone heard or seen Robb? His last prediction seems somewhat off the mark:

To avoid unnecessary heartache, I am taking leave of absence from this BB until
the Q3 announcement on 15th November. Very unlikely that anything material will occure in the meantime...but hopefully perhaps some sanity!
Bye for now, see you in November @ 365.5p
