Phoenix in talks over sale of European business

Life insurer Phoenix Group has confirmed it is considering a sale of its European businesses after receiving expressions of interest from a number of potential buyers.

The Edinburgh-headquartered company said there was “no certainty that a transaction will be achieved” but an announcement would be made in due course if appropriate.

Phoenix is an established participant in the European life insurance market, with operations across Ireland, Germany and the UK offshore savings market.

Phoenix bought Standard Life Assurance for £3.28bn two years ago following the merger of Standard Life and asset manager Aberdeen Asset Management in 2017.

As part of the deal Standard Life Aberdeen acquired a shareholding of just under 20 per cent of Phoenix Group.

In August this year Phoenix restructured the UK business around five divisions to drive pensions growth.

not only do we have fantasies about dividends, it extends to BB content - are we serious?

I would assume that ADVFN give Companies (or their Agents) special access to their BBs and that the Companies can manipulate the data for particular wording and/or particular Posters

Also I am sure that there are ouside consultancies which offer BB monitoring services

50 people sounds a bit low, first-time investors might not find a chat board but existing people would have. When people are trying to find news to explain a bad day they will come across one of the chat boards in google search. I think you would be surprised about how much money is connected to the viewers of these chats. On other hand, I could be completely wrong.

I've read things on these boards that have occasionally influenced my decisions - there's otherwise little point on being on them.

For me the biggest was my decision to bail on woodford's funds after I realised he'd lost the plot. Given I had c30% in his various platforms that saved me quite a bit. Problem has also been people expressing confidence in other co's that persuaded me to hold too long. Of course there is a lot of garbage about too.

Whilst a bit of "pump and dump" may affect the share price of some AIM tiddler I can't see it making any impact at all on a ftse constituent. I don't know how many people read this board - lets say 50 (theres quite a lot of lurkers) and we all have 100k on average invested in AV (both are likely to be on the high side, I for one have nothing like that). Thats £5m. 1% of AV is about £130m. So even if I came up with a killer post that caused everyone to sell it would not even make a scratch.

FWIW some CEOs from smaller co's have been known to occasionally comment. I can't imagine that AB would waste her time reading this.

But if you are "Hi"

I sometimes wonder if anyone from the investor's relation teams trolls these boards. I think these chat boards can make a deciding factor in some people's choices. I do not think people should or follow what people say on these chats i.e. jump off a cliff but influence people it can. I am an expert compared to many and a newbie compared to many others and I have learned things on these chat boards that have affected my decisions. If it made a 1% difference on 1% of buyer and seller on all of the FTSE that would equal to billions over a year.

That Barclays prediction is ludicrous. AB's disposal strategy and so much money swilling around looking for a good home means we should see this at 420 by next summer.

AI systems run 50% of the market most days at a guess and follows the market direction. I do not think many humans are selling the day before the update with so much positive speculation the emotional risk would be too high of missing out. People will look for news on google and when there is none will end up either looking on here or ISE for information.

Keep the faith - still have my full core holding held all the way from the lows - stopped trading once this got beyond 309p. Topped up several times to support a 300p price. Average price of holding now stands at 270p.

I have wondered at times whether Barclays was running its own book, because any substantial buys were always met with further prices falls and vice versa - could this account for Barclays latest forecast being only 360p as a target? More progress has been made by not trading at all.
