If only, whatsup32, I've been hanging on these 'Aviva could be next' rumours since the GA days....

Wba, I had heard rumours with one director mysteriously leaving early. In touch with a few but sadly we have lost a number of the senior team GM being the latest. Agree with you re quality of company. If Aviva had their culture the share price would not be where it is now.

thanks dr b

i do however disagree with this statement:

Insurers have had a torrid pandemic

sure if you are in the eye of the storm in BI claims its been unpleasant but like any insurance catastrophe that's just business and you harden rates accordingly to recoup and indeed make the best ROEs on ins in GI. However, apart from these directly affected insurers this year has been entirely normal with investment returns particularly in credit unaffected and claims in retail life and GI also basically unaffected. So the risk aversion in share prices is sentiment driven and nothing to do with outcomes. Indeed the same could be said of the media driven covid panic entirely driven by ineffective and inaccurate tests rather than actual health outcomes.

The update should be fine. What everyone wants to find out are the future plans and dividends amounts. if it good then we could start a new upwards trend.

My concern is that it might be better to travel in hope than to arrive. That said, I've jumped off the fence today and increased my av. holding by 50%My reasoning is that, if the shares do react badly to next weeks update, then either the market (particularly post Brexit deal) will limit the downside damage, or someone is going to be knocking at their door to put them (and us) out of our misery.

Are they looking to sell the entire French division though or to keep 25%(?) as they did with Singapore?

I don’t think I’ve been this optimistic on Aviva in a long time . Roll on next Thursday

Thanks all - great background. That’s the expedient solution that solves the union issue I’ve been hearing about. They seemingly cannot stand the idea of offshoring the life part of co to the Bermudan part of the ALZ bid. Happy days so long as price high and they have the resources

What if they dont signal to pay the final dividend from last MAY...
Things could get ugly.

I'm hoping for a final 2020 div of 13+p paid by May and a 24p annual div thereafter with increases similar to the LGEN model.
Would prefer any specials to be spread over several quarters and not a one hit of 25-50p .

Bought my last chunk of Aviva today at 319p - I've run out of capital ;0}

I'm hoping the statement next week is positive of course. My average price up to now was 290p, probably more like 300p with today's purchase. Hoping to see 400p again one day but how this French disposal plays on the share price is a mystery to me.

I'm just hoping the dividend is set to at least 24p. Let's face it, if the price rises to 400p that'd only be equivalent to 6% which is hardly pushing the boat out for an ex-growth insurance company.

There’s a piece on the Frenchtakeover in the French Les Echos from about 20 mins ago ago and I can just about make out in my dodgy o level French that other bidders have joined the fray. Every man and his dog seems to be crawling over the French operations. If you put in Aviva France news - you’ll be able to read it - I’m sure a lot of you can understand French a lot better than me

It's up about 60p in 3-4 weeks which isn't bad at all, give it time to consolidate before the next leg.

EU and UK in ‘final push’ to reach Brexit deal, says Commission Vice-President, about time too.

Hi WBA a bit OT, thought you were ex L&E from your knowledge of Aviva loosing the scheme business. PL I assume I was CL - Company got itself a bit to far in front of the market in so many respects and I wonder if an element of T/O was to slow down some of our initiatives particularly in relation to small business and technology on CL side which we now see is and was largely a commodity business the majority of which is now on line.
They threw a number of babies out with the bathwater,I have been out of the business for some time now and I hope Aviva have moved at least into the 20th century (21st a bit hopeful) in their thinking.

I believe the cost of entry when they bought their Indonesia stake about 10 years ago was less than £30m. So whilst there may have been substantial growth in the operation since then it is difficult to see the exit price being material compared to the other transactions in progress.

Gone back to look at that news from 6th March and cannot see any figure on how much they would have got? guess must be small change.
