Good news, it's helping L&G get a bigger gain than Aviva!

It was the sale of a joint venture holding to the JV partner. In these circumstances the partner has you over a barrel and the price is not subject to upward pressure from other bidders. This price is pretty decent.

How does €400m equate to 8.4x £52m? I am probably missing something and happy to be pointed in the right direction.

Today she announced she was selling the 80% of Aviva Vita that her business owns to its joint venture partner there, UBI Banca.

In addition to the sale proceeds, Aviva will get back a e40 million loan it gave the business.

In 2019, Aviva Vita's profit after tax was £52 million and it did not pay a dividend.

Aviva said the deal valued the unit at 8.4 times profit.

Blanc said: "Our strategy is about focus and delivery."

"The sale of Aviva Vita is another important step forward as we reshape our portfolio and follows the recent announcement of the majority sale of our Singaporean business."

Other disposals currently being negotiated include its operations in France, although Poland, China and India are expected to follow.

thats the thing eurofox - once they sign an spa they have to announce irrespective of pre set reporting dates. thats why im sceptical france will coincide with thu announcement. its unlikely , although not impossible, that they coincide.

looks ok to me on price - i dont know much about av italy but 1x own funds is fine and europe as a whole has own funds of £6bln from memory

The deal did not look great to me but this is probably due to my lack of knowledge.
I did like this statement from AB tho ....We will continue to be decisive as we seek to transform Aviva for the benefit of our shareholders."

Personally I think AB has got balls, and will do what she says (within reason).

So is the sale price any good today? Seems to be somewhat higher than the overall company rating.

I think we're all agreed that she doesn't possess balls.....Whether she does the right thing by the owners of the Company, aka known as the stockholders, remains to be seen. spud

i think i agree leedslad...amanda does not have any balls

there is nothing in their business that should cause them pause for thought. it will be presentational and maybe political. they owe us money from 2019. maybe they don't make that right but i stand behind my guess that they will offer up c20p per annum from here irrespective

I’m actually optimistic 22 p share total divi going forward and the announcement that they are selling the French operation to Macif (French insurer ) for 3.9 billion euros and disposal of Italy and the other European ops in the pipeline - lots of groups chasing Aviva France but it will be politically easier to sell it to a French group- that’s my guess for what it’s worth!

I agree with the comments about the sale of assets making growth difficult, but I am not interested in growth (Aviva do not have the management or scale to play with the big boys). I am interested in the simplification of the Aviva portfolio making it a more attractive target. I see the realisation of value coming from the sales followed by the UK and Canadian core then being snapped up. It may not happen but it is preferable as a way forward for realising value to continuing as a medium size local player.

As far as dividend and share price prospects; I suspect specifics for a 2020 interim, any further payment for 2019 and the outlook for a 2020 final will disappoint the more bullish on here. I would not be surprised by a further 6p for 2019, a 6p 2020 interim and an expectation set for a 12-15p final. But I would also expect this to be sweetened by a clear statement on a return from asset sales. If a future special (even a limited one in terms of the value realised - which I expect) is announced (even without detail) I expect this to support the share price in the 320-330 region. If she waffles on about share buybacks or worse (without committing to a special then I would expect to see a fall back to 300. I would also expect her to be specific about the future basis for dividend payments (a coverage ratio).

expecting special div 21p, going forward without benefit of France and Singapore possibly 20p per annum . Income from disposals, banked pending M&A or used to reduce debt.
Reducing debt at such low rates should not be a priority.
