13/8/2020 09:22 | Yes, but look at it now - approaching flat YTD. | skinny
13/8/2020 09:21 | cord.....DOW is just 300 points off it's all time high in Jan '20 Nas, all time high yesterday Just shouts 'stock market bubble' to me M | milliethedog
13/8/2020 09:21 | .. Volatility expected to increase as we draw nearer to US elections anyway. | cordwainer
13/8/2020 09:18 | Ok, i see that. But the DOW did fall to 18,500 in March on Covid news. Tech stocks or not. Nasdaq now above 11,000. Should there be a correction in the US then i think the FTSE will drop accordingly in my view. US sneezes & we catch cold, as they say. October is a good month for stock market crashes! M | milliethedog
13/8/2020 09:15 | ..surely you're referring to the weightings in NASDAQ and S&P500 there rather than DOW..? In any case, the DOW is not at an all time high it would need about another 6% or so. | cordwainer
13/8/2020 09:06 | No. The DOW is heavily skewed towards tech due in main by the F.A.N.G stocks. It has become disjointed from historic valuation techniques unlike the F100. I suspect it'll power above 30k in fairly short order. spud | spud
13/8/2020 08:51 | Am usually trading a set 5 – 7 shares at any one time. Trading the high's & low's. BT, AV, LGEN, RDSB, IMB, LLOY.... I see the same members on some of these boards as I do here at times Although not specifically Av related i'll post this question here. Are any of you even slightly worried about the US market being over priced? The DOW & Nasdaq are trading at all time highs. This seems out of sync with the 'real' world to me. Surely any 'correction' would have a huge effect on us in UK. ?? M | milliethedog
13/8/2020 08:41 | Perhaps the VWAP tool is better for trading intra day or so time scales. So you can better judge if the currant price is above/below the 'average' . Shame i can't justify £500+ a year for L2..... Sold out here yesterday @ 304.10 Same with Lgen @ 239.60 Had a feeling they might drop more than the dividend today..... M | milliethedog

13/8/2020 07:16 | JRP results v strong for those interested | cjac39
12/8/2020 21:32 | I do find all this vwap short position stuff interesting. And I respect anyone who trades off that. But it would never feature in my decision to capital allocate to company a or b. Presently I find all listed life companies cheap. I don’t really understand non life companies (although I know quite a bit about them) but it strikes me short term trading anomalies are a bit irrelevant to the overall cheapness | cjac39
12/8/2020 21:19 | spud, there's probably a few more below public threshold (0.5% from memory) Also egg shell time just in case a repeat of 08, 09 short selling ban. edit, having just looked at the short positions (disclosed for 12th Aug) AV. do not appear at all, one can only assume the stock on loan is therefore for other purposes, perhaps market making or derivative activities . | 1pencil
12/8/2020 16:58 | Pencil - Probably got greedy.. spud | spud
12/8/2020 15:56 | For the month of July an average of 3.68% out on loan, not a good day to be closing with FTSE up 150 points. MyEuroclear Monthly stock loan data GB0002162385 AVIVA ORD 25P 3.68% | 1pencil
12/8/2020 15:47 | 44p To 350p (my break even price) ! | chinese investor
12/8/2020 15:43 | Yep, I'm a little over £12k down on both. spud | spud
12/8/2020 15:29 | I hope AV. restore theirs, that cost me just a tad over £3k in lost divi | p0pper
12/8/2020 15:05 | Admiral joins list of U.K. insurers restoring dividends Regulator certainly overreacted in bullying insurers into not paying dividends. | whatsup32
12/8/2020 13:55 | Knowing our luck most likely an asteroid strike! | carpingtris
12/8/2020 13:52 | That is what I am hoping for. | action

12/8/2020 13:23 | Off topic and excuse my ignorance/eyesight, but what is that emoji at the beginning of post 4023? | skinny
12/8/2020 13:22 | Yes, but strong money for me given the amount i'm 'playing' with sadly E. Interesting tool tho.... Jumped ship @ 304.10p at 12:14 for 12% return over 8 trading days, which i'm ok with Also same with Lloy @ 29.96; 13% over similar time. Good luck all that hang on | milliethedog
12/8/2020 12:54 | Real-time ADVFN is the only real game in town which is why it costs about 550 quid a year (depending on discounts)- but to make it pay you need to throw a fair amount of capital around and be prepared to pay attention to it in real-time. What is amazing is how long it takes many punters to break free from persistently selling the peaks into persistently buying the dips. Its like an oil tanker in terms of behaviour, but we will transition through it. | eurofox |
