Markets are not pricing in growth. They are pricing in the complete collapse of the value of money due to the collapse in yields via the printing presses

p0pper,

I suspect the world is coming to realise that growth for ever is coming to an end. Markets have been geared to "growth over value" for some years and I'm increasingly taking the view that the paradigm is gradually shifting back to value (over dubious growth prospects)from assured cash flow, operational efficiency and strong balance sheets. So, yes, indices may well be dragged down further but I suspect not all stocks will be equally affected because of the opportunity to make such a paradigm shift under the covers of general malaise. I've therefore taken the view that I am holding on to my core holding in AV. because the risk of missing another significant low is vanishing by the day. Further top-ups may or may not be possible, but i keep plenty of dry powder for such eventualities.

Nothing to add on Italy wba. I don’t know what they have there in much detail and haven’t ever really found much written about it. Also not sure what their focus is for offloading European assets. I think they just raised the flag saying non core to see what comes in from the investment bankers

Not a great year for hedge funds I would imagine.

All sorts of stocks making new highs along with some indexes, trackers are where it's at for low cost too.

On the question of disposals, I am surprised at the lack of mention for Italy. I would get shot of their general insurance business as fast as possible. Believe it or not Italy has some of the best actuaries/underwriters around. They have to be in order to keep ahead of some of the customer scams they face. Unfortunately Aviva Italy do not have any of the better people, are sub scale in general insurance and have a disappointing track record. I am not sure of the health of the life and investment business in Italy (cjac?)but see no reason not to carve off general insurance if a buyer can be found at an acceptable price.

let's hope they don't renege on the 6p dividend this time. Enough damage has already been done to the integrity of this 'Blue Chip'company!

I'm looking at the chart on max time line and it looks great long term from here.

That's the wife and I's isa's jam packed with Aviva shares and it's going to take a few years to get the others in our trading account transfered in there as well. Topped up again 282p this morning.

I'm loving this uncertainty & opportunity and looking forward to seeing the next company statement on dividend including the special.

pOpper. In the current climate where the CEO macho guage is their dividend cutting 'courage'/'conservatism' there is definitely a risk that any re-basing could be un-necessarily overdone.
Personally, I can see little current rationale for cutting the AV dividend at all.
In the great scheme of things, especially for an Insurance Company, 2020 has been difficult but certainly not a calamity. Also, looking forward rates will be firming and costs easier to control.
If AB has any courage she should maintain the dividend and only rebase should disposals necessitate it.

A little sloppyness in the share price may not be such a bad thing.
It might convince AB that too large a dividend 'rebasing' could severely de-stabilise the share price
