For context:

Around 2% of people who have caught the new coronavirus have died but this figure is likely to change as treatments are developed and the virus is contained.

In comparison, SARS, which is considered similar, had a mortality rate of more than 10% when it was active in the early 2000s and the seasonal flu has a mortality rate of below 1%.

Although flu might not seem like a deadly illness, on average it kills around 17,000 people in England a year.

Public Health England told ITV News: "The number of flu cases and deaths due to flu-related complications varies each flu season.

"The average number of deaths in England for the last five seasons, 2014/15 to 2018/19, was 17,000 deaths annually.

"This ranged from 1,692 deaths last season, 2018/19, to 28,330 deaths in 2014/15."

Since October, more than 4,000 people with confirmed flu have been admitted to hospitals in England with at least 70 deaths.

You are correct. This was overdue and needed a suitably broad hitting trigger.

Have a look at the 30 year T bond yield chart overlayed with periods of recession. Way overdue.

spud, some issues prior to this. Multiple economics slowing,
at least partly down to Trump's trade wars. But perhaps also
because late cycle?.

Amazing what a new strain of influenza can do when effectively super-hyped by the media.

Aviva Investors should be sold imv, I don't buy the turnaround bluster.
Active fund management is under huge pressure form the rise of passive funds, which looks unrelenting. Get rid, if possible.

indeed, although i have to say, i'm 80% cash still from when i sold prior to the corbyn scares, so plenty of scope for getting re-invested at lower prices

Personally, quite happy with 3% dividend raise. If it continues over next 10 years, it will be much more than interest rates. Buy and hold, reinvest dividends for me.

i have no doubt it will go lower, but have to maintain a core holding. i suspect this would be even lower right now if it were not for the totally unrealistically high prices and almost zero yield of bonds

Kev, would it be fair to say you are not one of life's optimists ).

However, do take your point about the September low.

Its not as though the share price is in unchartered territory. It almost reached this level in mid September. The management did warn about uncertainty in the coming year. Since then the virus as hit. So the only surprise is the share price is above £3
