I guesstimate markets are at the late fear stage, perhaps with panic / capitulation and then despondency still to arrive, followed by hope, relief and then optimism.

Well so far your timing looks better than mine!

Perhaps the Americans are just beginning to panic properly?

moreover, I would not want to have an extra holding just at the point that investors reluctant to sell so far are exposed to more gloom over the weekend and may become new sellers

like others I have an itchy finger here, but have decided to be disciplined, because I don't think this riot is not over yet

Trying to guage the moment of "peak fear" is beyond me. So I have dabbled in the market today as, looking through the crisis, I see some stocks that WILL be cheap in 2/3 years even if the are not necessarily looking that way right now or in a downturn.

I have added about a quarter of the cash from my sell-offs from mid-December to three weeks ago in a small number of targeted stocks. I have also sold down one particular stock that looked vulnerable.

tornado, I'm really tempted to have a buy here to average down but like you I think no matter what the results say we will be hit. Itchy buy finger though.

I think results next week will be ok , but it’s the comments on 2020 that could light the touch paper. We are not immune and will be affected. I’m confident Aviva can survive it and they remain one of my stalwart long term divi investments ( as with LGEN)

"The panic mode is full on," Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior analyst at Swissquote Bank, wrote in a morning note.

The market may be "entering the period of peak fear," Neil Wilson, chief market analyst for markets.com, said in a morning note. "Blood is running in the streets."

Other analysts accepted that coronavirus could weaken consumer demand and disrupt global supply chains, choking global economic growth and resulting in a bear market. Yet they argued the current sell-off is overblown.

"It appears that the market has gotten ahead of itself and a rebound should be around the corner," Jasper Lawler, head of research at London Capital Group, said in a morning note.

"The world isn't going to be pushed in a major recession just because of coronavirus." Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at AvaTrade, concurred in a morning note

History has shown during world events, he who waits at the doobistani bar whilst chaos ensues is often rewarded. Alas let the chill wind voice the thought of a thousand minds, the tear drop in the ocean presents the change of wind

I imagine the results will be pretty standard but that won’t matter. If they pay the full dividend then this will be hammered if they don’t this will be hammered anything in between this will be hammered. I’m afraid the greed munchers are in control now.

I’m 30% cash. Last week I was 25% cash and I’ve only bought this week, shows how much I’ve lost, I reckon 30-40k which is significant. Made a promise to myself that I stay out until the FTSE has 3 consecutive days of not falling. Then I’ll commit the cash.

eurofox,

won't look good on Monday after those who decided this week now decide to become new sellers after a weekend's reflection

==========

You have a point......these crashes tend not to bottom on a Friday...…..folks will brood over the weekend and sell on Monday and Tuesday.....
