Spud, are you not expecting good results?

See it all unfold here tomorrow. Be interesting to see how the cost savings are impacting positively on the bottom line:

sold out today was very short term but made 2.5% and can always buy in again after results re the div. In these markets rather make small gains as this paid for a nice wine tasting this month. cash is king in these mrkts

I can definitely see £3 coming but not when you think! Personally and obviously I could be wrong the virus will start to diminish and the markets will have a euphoric moment then the impact will sink in again and bang the economics of loose money and negative rates will finally hit home.

This is nothing like the credit crunch, in 2008/9 there was real concern the financial system would collapse and bank lending just stopped. That’s not the case here and although there may be worse to come yet, consensus is that there will be a recovery over the summer. I suppose it’s a case of trying to judge where the bottom is?

Hello 11_percent,

The GOLD thread is somewhere I still visit, but it's all argumentation really and I decided I had better things to do than get involved in the crossfire between hectorp and peterbarnes ;0)

You're maybe talking about 'capitulation'. Clearly we aren't there yet as there are plenty of bargain hunters still around. The market hasn't really dropped much overall although oil and travel stocks have. I remember the lowest day during the financial crisis back in 2009 when shares had halved - people on the bulletin boards here just started singing silly songs and talking nonsense as they'd lost so much ;0) I'm hoping we don't revisit that sort of scenario.

I am investing mostly in dividend stocks so that even if there is a crash hopefully I get 'paid to wait' for a recovery. Oh, and gold of course ;0)

guilty of topping up at the bottom here

It's touched or been below 300p before several times, so simplistically I can see 300p being reached easily enough in a crisis. It's never spent much time below 300p though so 290-300p maybe a good entry point if it happens.

Same idea except I have came in yesterday. I reckon revisit 2nd investment late week. Give the virus a chance to settle. 3rd investment during recovery.

Tomorrow? Results on Thursday. Or did you mean macro-economic shocks?

I bought a few just before the bell at 347. Decided to put half my planned investment in now and decide whether to go all in after the results. Of course the whole market could still dive from here on any shock but as a long-term holder, I'll be happy enough at this price in the years to come......

....as long as they don't cut the divi!

Who knows. Looks like some holders bailed before the bell rang to avoid any surprises tomorrow.
