I may sound as if I'm out of the market, but I'm not. I have a core holding covering 20% of liquid assets that provide adequate dividend income with the other 80% in cash (which funnily enough was a position taken well in advance of Corbyn's threat of power) and I'm keeping it that way as dry powder for what is bound to get worse in spite of encouraging rallys. I do trade down and up on the side and love the volatility for that - today being a good example.

..pretty much a bear market now with trading having shifted to sell each real rally and cover at a new lower dip. won't look good on Monday after those who decided to buy this week now decide to become new sellers after a weekend's reflection

The volatility on the DOW reminds me of the Dot.com bubble and 2008 crash events all over again

Whatsup32, I agree it’s being over exaggerated to a degree but it will now cause substantial losses for a great deal of companies so is being reflected in markets. The cynic in me can’t help thinking it detracts from far more important issues for certain countries! Your not seeing climate protests anymore it’s stopped it gathering pace the Hong Kong situation with China now silenced,Brexit negotiations will be different now the worse the hype gets and the failing super economies can use the virus to hide behind the debt fuelled bubble they created.

I'm expecting a debasing of the dividend next week. Prudent balance sheet management, cashflow, precautions etc.

Japanese schools being closed for a month.
Clearly that is where the Japanese educate their over 70's yes ? No risk to children or teenagers yes ?

NO!

If the authorities have woken up to the risk - whilst at the same time not wanting to cause panic , surely some on here can get with it.....

Plenty of under 40's dying as well but it's definitely predominantly those with "predispositions"

The elderly, or mostly economically inactive provide the spending that ensures many others are economically active!!!! So of great significance imo.

Over whelming the NHS will be the big worry.
This happens every winter with the flu, and Covid-19 is more dangerous than the flu - even based on Chinese official numbers which clearly arent a fair representation of the actual infection/death rates.

You called it right by predicting sell of .
My fear is not the virus spreading which it is but the panic now taking place in trying to stop it . Shutting airports , factories , towns is the worst thing authorities can do . Financial costs will be substantial .
Better to take reasonable protection and let virus spreading . 70k people died from cold and 2.3k from corona . Get a grip people

Its mostly the old and otherwise ill - I guess largely economically inactive. But 20% develop severe symptoms and given the rapid spread it could overwhelm the health service. We are in the fear phase - who knows how far it will go. I'm surprised the US hasn't tanked further tbh.

The markets will probably start to bounce soon using the excuse this is a little overdone and we have had that short correction needed to get us passed 30000 just to much money doing nothing and itching fingers I suspect although I could be wrong.
