I’m in for both if price is right. Aviva is a good price but LGEN a little high. I already have a 5 figure holding on both today, again as part of my long term investment portfolio

We are well prepared now. All we have to do is regularly wash our hands for 20 seconds whilst singing 'Happy Birthday' twice. If only the Chinese would've thought of that one,it could have been contained.

Oh yeah. Once this is fully settled into Europe and USA I think we'll have another drop. But I have a sneaking suspicion our reaction won't be as extreme as china's because the rest of the world will already be infected with us.

Sr2day, I agree whole heartedly with your comments, this turndown has not finished and next bad news round corner can make another global drop over the next weeks. Nothing is predictable here apart cronovirus is not out of the woods yet. They are predicting 20-50% drop in WW growth. That’s going to hurt ... a lot

Probably is. In a correction BREAK YOUR INVESTMENT UP INTO STAGES! smooth it out.

likewise i can't help wondering if the strong US move Monday might end up as part of a flag-like pattern of consolidation before another big correction. I already tried catching a few falling knives Monday morning with pre-opening limit orders and I'm afraid I lost some fingers in the process. I might find them again *eventually*, or grow them back out of dividends. Still plenty of dry powder though over 21% cash. Thought PRU, LGEN, AV.,RDSB, MNDI were looking a bit tasty beyond the short term to top up or buy back again, but its all relative. Some debt-free AAZ that's a bit adventurous.

stimulus or no stimulus if the virus spread we are heading for 20k Dow and 6k Ftse.it could get worse if they do not find a vaccine.the economic snowball effect would be huge.elementary economics.unlike the crazy Dow the Nikkei and the Hang Seng is behaving sensibly this morning to reflect the threat.

Of course there will be relief rallies but one should remain cautious given the virus is heading towards 100K confirmed cases and now over 3K deaths.

There's talk of economic stimulus so early on it's crazy.

I don’t expect divi cut but will invest after results. I’m already quite big in Aviva but I want to continue to grow my holding

OK, points taken.
Explain the weakness today?
58p EPS is an historical number - thats the problem.

mountpleasant, EPS is over 58p dividend is 30.25p so how is the cover weak?

I would'nt say the dividend cover is weak. It is twice as well covered than the likes of Vodafone who are only paying out a 6% dividend also, whereas Aviva pays out >8.5%. After just announcing recently that Aviva will pay out a progressive dividend, the CEO would lose an enormous amount of credibility if he reneged on this policy announcement.

It was mixed at best. LGEN suffered exactly the same.

The markets were up strongly today.
Why is AV still dropping?
I reckon a few big investors must already know details of the results,
Could they be rebasing the dividend? I know the div. cover is weak.

MrThomas

The last time AV. was trading at this level was on the 31 December 2018, oscillating between 337 to 353 on the Day. Not sure where you got the Five year low from? Today AV. closed at approx 342.
