01/4/2021 12:15 | @donald Yes, it doesn't seem so big gain to move the price a 7% up. Besides, one of the plaintiffs Dublin-based Hamilton doesn't accept the settlement. Is there anything else or just the market? | alfredomega
01/4/2021 11:56 | That Steinhoff case. Settlement is 943, split across 4 main groups. If we assume the groups are of equal size, BURs group should get around 235m. From that, BUR will pay its legal fees (assume 10m) and take 30% of the rest, so just shy of 70m. That's the best rule of thumb you can come up with in the absence of the inside track | donald pond
01/4/2021 11:08 | Galatea, interesting post there thanks. Do you have any more details about the Steinhoff case i.e. how much money is at stake and how much is Burford likely to earn? Thanks | dgdg1
01/4/2021 10:51 | So, who bought the dip?! Up, up and away we go! Brace for the impact on the moon chaps. | stock surfer
01/4/2021 10:10 | I did actually wonder that myself as I was typing it, oh dear - hope that wont jeopardize Morgan Stanley from their imminent purchase of 500,000 shares that a good friend on mine in the US told me about last night. Thanks for putting me right Ozz | rar100
01/4/2021 10:08 | Up up and away Go burford you know it makes sense | tnt99
01/4/2021 09:50 | Peanuts do not grow into trees actually, just saying ;) | ozzmosiz
01/4/2021 09:45 | It is good to see the share price rise but as Scuba said, the directors buys are peanuts and the share price is still peanuts, all the good news is great but the share price is still WAY out of kilter. Hopefully this is real momentum, this is what BUR needs - the herd instinct coming to play in that institutions will wake up to it's value now. Peanuts do grow into trees...the lucky ones | rar100
01/4/2021 07:40 | It is definitely looking like there is strong support around 580, and we had a double top around £8. The last few days have been consistently strong: probably CB and JMs buys have helped, as at have the EBT, and the debt news and rating agency upgrade. But my feeling is that there aren't many sellers left at these levels. We've had 3 sets of results since the MW debacle, and anyone looking to exit on any sort of bounce has probably done so. My feeling is that this might be the start of a new long term uptrend and I'm very tempted for my 2021 ISA | donald pond
31/3/2021 22:43 | The debt offering might have attracted some attention. It's only a matter of time IMHO - ignoring all the complexities: >> £4.6bn of invested capital; >> Consistent track record of 90+% Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) or c.30% IRR; and yet, >> Market Cap of £1.3bn. At some point Mr Market is going to wake-up to the growth/value on offer here. | maddox
31/3/2021 21:23 | On decent volume too | donald pond
31/3/2021 21:04 | 9 bucks across the big pond. Bodes well. | johnbuythedips
31/3/2021 15:31 | Scuba, the relative cost is the same.Makes no difference if they are richer than you.Cost to them was roughly £33k each | ozzmosiz
31/3/2021 15:26 | The relatative cost to them is the same as me putting my hand in my pocket for a hamburger. I expect though that there will be more to come | scubadiverr
31/3/2021 15:15 | That's a good sign, they know things we don't... | rar100
31/3/2021 13:17 | The Directors Bogart & Molot purchased a few shares yesterday | dekle

31/3/2021 12:07 | @stentorian: Vultures need corpses! The Peronistas have done that part all by themselves. | galatea99
31/3/2021 11:54 | Thanks galatea99. At least the Argentine press are now referring to Burford as a "fund" rather than "vulture fund" | stentorian
31/3/2021 11:07 | A couple of snippets here which may be of interest: Firstly, one of the cases in which Burford is reported as having an interest seems to be coming to a successful conclusion. This is the Steinhoff case in South Africa. (Good place to have a corporate HQ, Stellenbosch, best white wines in RSA) The second is that in a case unrelated to Petersen, Judge Preska seems to have come down very hard on Argentina which may show that she is a tough woman not afraid to call out carp. This is a case where Argentina seems to have fiddled their measure of GDP in order to save themselves about $3bn. (Judge Preska must be fed up to the teeth with Argentina!) | galatea99
31/3/2021 01:37 | Buy back near half market cap and have c$300m extra cash for investment | williamcooper104
31/3/2021 01:34 | Against that $2bn you need to take away what Bur sold and the carrying value of Peterson to get to the incremental profit which would then just be a few hundred million However in cash terms it would be around a clean $1bn, which would allow Bur to buy back near half their market cap | williamcooper104
31/3/2021 01:31 | I think the minimum settlement price would be one that gave a 15 IRR to the funds that bought Peterson - so at a guess c30 percent higher than current carrying value That would be an incremental cash gain of only c$220m but it would allow a material share buy back and would cause share price to soar | williamcooper104
30/3/2021 22:14 | Tradertrev, The best security is to insist on delivery of cold hard cash on an agreed time frame - everything else is a discount. If Argentina lose in court they will lose far more in value - but BUR will then have the headache of recovering the funds. No point in reaching a settlement and then giving yourself more problems. | maddox |
