Or perhaps prospective investors have just realised that it wasn't a massive fraud and the extent of the future opportunity here.... I'm in that camp, and am not surprised at the recent uptick. It was bound to happen at some point, it was just when, not if.

Likewise, we won't know when this will move on, but my bet is that we'll fall back a bit shortly due to some short term profit taking, and then continue the march upwards, perhaps at a slightly slower rate than the past few weeks.

Or is some sort of news on Petersen about to be released? This has jumped 54% in under a month so it has to be something more than a determined buyer surely?

Cashed in 10% at 780, and another 10 at 860, but it does seem set for a ride to 950 to £10. As buffet says, don't uproot the flowers (or water the weeds, or words to that effect)! A determined buyer out there, I guess.

@Tnt99 by "sorted" what do you mean exactly? The end of discovery or something else. I have a substantial position in YPF bonds and I use my BUR equity long as a bit of a hedge against that.

Real change in sentiment here - 16 up days out of the last 20 trading days, and the 4 down days were only marginally down whereas 5 of the 16 up days were >5% each day. That hasn’t happened since January 2016. So this is the best run for over 5 years.

I thought Peterson was still in discovery and had covid delays but to be honest I'm not exactly sure what the timetable is.

Seeing that there are some investors/analysts that always have concerns over Burford’s liquidity I think it useful to pull-out some of Chris Bogart’s comments from the recent Shares Magazine presentation:

“we ventured for the first time this year into the US institutional debt market, and we were very pleased to close enormously successful inaugural issue, we raised $400 million of long-term debt capital that that extends the ladder of our debt maturities out to 2028 now”

“it was exceedingly well received by investors the offering was significantly oversubscribed. We were able both to increase its size and also the drive down the coupon, the effective interest rate on that debt and so that was really a show of strength in the market.”

The initial offer was $350m of debt and this was increased to $400m due to demand. The coupon rate is 6.25% for redemption in 2028. This is a substantially sized initial offering, the market demand and pricing, indicate that this is an attractive source of US$ capital that matches its assets – thus mitigating financing and FX risks.

Devalpha,

I agree that BUR needs long term serious investors, I just read here that Reddit may be become involved in buying shares - not my opinion that's a good thing and although we may wish for them not to, we can't do anything about it, might be some good in it also - but who knows...
There's some truth to the phrase 'any publicity is good publicity' better than none anyway

Galatea,

I'm glad you are back in, that gives me confidence! Your timing on getting out was pretty good as I remember.

One specific point on the Akhmedova judgement yesterday (hxxps://www.judiciary.uk/judgments/akhmedova-v-akhmedova-and-ors/ for anyone with a lot of spare time on their hands!), it's worth noting that the total awards were c$1.4bn compared to the £453m (c$630m) referenced in the press. This latter figure was the amount of the original award. Obviously Burford's share is unknown and recovery/enforcement will be difficult but nonetheless it is a very positive step.

Made a note to myself last night to buy back my "trading" position at open today.

Got totally distracted but other (non-market) events so paid 5% more than I should.

Happy though that momentum may have turned and that the 40p/share I missed out on won't be too upsetting in the longer run.

Molly, yes, I picked up a few more the other day.
Fortuitous timing!

The reddit crowd go mad whenever Musk throws out some opaque one-liner,
no matter how nonsensical. One line or even one word does the trick. Dogecoin?

A long analysis like the traviswiedower one on BUR would need them to actually think.
That might be a bit beyond the way they see "investing".

rar100, we're all entitled to our own opinions, but personally I don't want the Reddit crowd anywhere near Burford.Burford is a business setting itself up well for sustained long term success. The last thing the management and shareholders should want is for a pump and dump crew to treat it like the 2.30pm at Kempton or the Maybury Casino. We need long term investors who understand the business and don't run scared when the price goes temporarily against them, or get too excited and sell when the price jumps, in both cases due to psychological influence.
