Yes, this is the start of a great ride. I saw it go from the eqivalent of USD 6 to 10+, which is still extremely cheap.

I can see BUR being valued at 30 bn. BUR retains a 61.25% share of Peterson which alone could yield up to USD 8bn. Withe the rest of the investments I think this valuation is possible, once the market notices.

Price to book should be like 3 for a growing business with exceptional returns. Hence, a price of 130 USD/share seems fair.

Hi Amigos, unfortunately wasn't able to make the web presentation last night. Was there anything new since the results? Appreciate some more views on how Chris Bogart communicated the investment case?

I've added today and yesterday. The fundamentals are great and the chart looks ready for another leg up and an assault on £8.

Just watched it. He's a very accomplished speaker. Not a current holder but he has certainly piqued my interest. I'll look a bit deeper asap.

Tnt99 please spare us the pointless ramp. Other posters tend to provide substantiation which is far more useful than numbers plucked out of the air.

Hi madharry,

I picked out the 2019 Annual Report because it is very descriptive of the business - I still refer back to it myself and thought you might find it helpful too.

It would be great to get your viewpoint on BUR's profile in the US from a US investor perspective. Their NYSE debut, I for one, thought would lead to a quicker recovery in the share price. So how long have you been invested and what attracted you to them?

I bought BUR based on TA momentum and directors dealing few days ago - to put it simple - also fundamental value on paper seems fine or great - computer trading got hold of BUR maybe - due to similar reasons

when a stock gets into computer trading - its a different world

and you can spot it by the trading pattern if it is so - size of trades, ice bergs etc

mh3 - Burford published their 2020 Annual Report on 24th March, the day they announced their results. It was 224 pages long and has been available since that date on the website. It is immensely informative. Not sure what your problem is?

thanks to all of you. its not the quantity of info provided. its the timing. you are telling me about the 2019 report. what about the 2020 report? Berkshire Hathaway sent me their annual report over a month ago i believe. Burford has to be way easier. I suspect that that they easily have a conference call by february 15 with about 95% accuracy. meanwhile shares are up sharply in new york today in a down market. anyone know why?

If you remember, at the time of the £18.50 placing the majority of people on here were annoyed that, as retail investors, they hadn’t been offered to take up the shares at £18.50, and felt they’d been let down by the directors!

They keep borrowing because they can gain returns on borrowing in excess of the cost of borrowing. I can’t remember but how much equity have BUR ever raised? I suspect it is something like £200m.

Yes and absolutely from a business perspective this makes sense. From an investor confidence perspective it has the problem of making some people a bit uneasy. They need to show they can generate cash from their case book before they expand it rapidly using debt.

DP I think it's more like £400m - IPO in '09 £80m, follow-on 1 year later about £120m then the placing at 1850p in Oct'18 raising a short £200m. Only rough numbers from memory.

Thanks loglorry,

They had a long-term objective of tapping the US Debt Market - it has the greatest depth and liquidity, and keenest pricing. It also has a currency match for much of Burfords Assets. As they say "the best time to borrow - is when you don't actually need it."

This inaugural debt issue introduces them to the market, does have some utility as it fits nicely with their current debt profile and extends their debt horizon (before William starts worrying about it). Ultimately, tapping this market will bring down their overall cost of financing. Incidentally, I think the debt raise heightened their US profile and might have caused the increase in buys. The investors/potential investors in the Burford Debt would have done their due diligence and the share price anomaly would be stark.

Regards Maddox
