Hi just a couple of articles that may be of interest.
Good to see Paul Cassidys two sons Phil and Peter on the board as joint managing directors. This should strengthen the board and help make Casdon an International brand.(see above report)
I think the UK market is going to be poor not just for Casdon but all toy firms hence the selling overseas looks a very good move.Don't forget the range of toys already in play look very good so why not take them to new markets. The design and tooling is paid for just the marketing to do.Nice to see a dividend increase which may be taken as a sign of confidence.

Still looking a bit sad here and no posts. Anyone heard anything on trading ?

Property and values are in a downtrend too....the factory unit is on an industrial estate with little scope for any redevelopment potential. Commercial values are falling and although a leaseback would bring money in to invest in new product the business then has additional rental costs.

This is all about whether the business can turnaround and as the current offering is not showing any real signs in tough markets I suspect even 60p a share is a long way off. I still say there are far better small caps around that will show a quick shorter term gain. Just my honest opinion

Sales were up in H1, but I agree with the overall trend. To be fair to the Cassidy's they have controlled the decline very well and the business is profitable overall through head office reductions and valuable property rental income. They need some innovative toys to improve things. Ultimately, the property is probably worth over a £1 a share, maybe more.

It may be stronger in H2 than last year but will it prevent a loss and what direction is the business going in ?? Sales have declined every year for the last five

2003....5.34m

2004....3.95m

2005....3.43m

2006....3.25m

2007....2.94m

They have not made an operating profit on the toy business so this is fast becoming an extinct and dying old company. It really needs something to lift those sales ....Any ideas ??

Maybe you are hoping that the controlling Cassidy family are going to give up after a hundred years and sell off the factory and fairly minimal value machinery and try to return the proceeds to shareholders....I cannot see it and the company is tiny so the costs will eat into the extraction of any value.

A turnaround is desperately needed....

I disagree.

Casdon has a NAV of 60p WITHOUT revaluing any of the properties in its balance sheet which haven't been revalued for decades.

Their interim suggested that xmas sales fell more into Nov and Dec and so the second half trading will be stronger than previous years.

On top fo that there is a dividend.

Thanks for the reminder. Hadn't realised it had dropped so far...may buy some more!

If you check the interim results you will see that they were 50% down on a year ago and H2 is always the weaker half so they may make an overall loss this year to 30th April 2008. The business is unlikely to be getting any easier in these markets.

Small stocks have been sold off and there are no buyers so this one will probably drift even further. Can you give me a good reason to buy now ?

I cannot see any forecasts but even if they could match last year at 2.6p eps that is a p/e of about 15 and I have lots of small caps in my folio on p/e ratios below 5 and many with no debt as well.

Take a look at VLK, TSE, CHW, AMU, BVM and many more.....small caps sadly are not being bought even at a third of the price of CDY so unless you are aware of something to excite the punters this will get far lower in these markets.

Ridiculous what two shares sales totalling 3,000 does to the price. Just think what a bit of buying would do, given most have held these for a while - i.e. lots of long termers!
