What is Rolls Royce OE average loss now? It was 15% average OE loss across engines going into 2018, with an aim to breakeven by 2020

Former aeronautical engineer Rolls Royce Plc…

The answer to this question is that every airline customer will negotiate an individual engine price with Rolls-Royce ( or any of the other engine manufacturers) and this agreed price will reflect the size of the aircraft/engine order and the prestige of the airline. However it is generally acknowledged that aircraft engines are often sold at a loss, and any profit is made in the aftermarket ( servicing and spare parts).

Since the book price of a large aero engine may be £15m it is not inconceivable that initial engine sales to prestige customers (where a discount is required to secure the sale) could be at a loss of around £1m per engine. However, engines are usually sold with a service agreement

(MT Newswires) Ansys (ANSS) said Wednesday it collaborated with Rolls-Royce and Intel (INTC) to reduce the simulation time of the thermo-mechanical model of Rolls- Royce's gas-turbine engine to less than 1 0 hours from more than 1,000 hours, saving energy and development costs. The collaboration was also supported by the computing resources at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility, HPE, and researchers at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the company said.
