When it reported news factually and without too much opinion it was an excellent paper. The change of ownership was no help either. Pearson should never have sold it. Nowadays, with real-time financial data so readily available, it is no longer required reading. That's what it did best - reporting facts and figures. It isn't the influential paper of old.

Oil surges on news of coronavirus vaccine

Oil extended gains on Wednesday as researchers revealed they are on track to finding an antiviral drug for the novel coronavirus that has been rattled both equity and commodity markets in recent weeks.

Fears of dampened demand seemed to subside after scientists at Imperial College London said they managed to reduce normal vaccine development time from "two to three years to just 14 days."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index gained 300 points in premarket on Wednesday after it was reported that the United Kingdom researchers of the coronavirus vaccine made a "significant breakthrough," pointing out that animal testing of the vaccine will begin next week.

Professor Robin Shattock, a researcher at Imperial College London, pointed out that he is at the stage of testing the vaccine on animals as early as next week, noting that studies in humans could begin in the summer provided that enough funding is secured.

I may be speaking to soon but the latest data shows only 1 death from corona yesterday. 63 new cases but only 1 death suggests they've got it licked.

PPI has stopped, there's been some buyback, HMG no longer has a stake, the threat of Corbyn getting into No.10 has passed - surely the potential here has got to be higher than 65p ? 40% of the stock was sold to institutions for 71p when the clouds were greyer than they are now.

Regardless, I'm in for the long haul. I'm looking for a bit of extra income in retirement, so I'll be sitting tight whatever happens to the share price
