Most of us were happy with the status quo with regards to the EU until Farage came along - dressed in clothes from a 1960's Oxfam display - and brainwashed the gormless using WW2 soundbites.

Minerve2. Firstly, it seems many were not happy with the status quo as you put it. Secondly, one of Nigel's silk ties cost more than your wardrobe, the guy dresses well, I doubt that you have a clue where clothes are concerned.

Anyway Minerve2, I wish you well, hope you get rid of your anxiety and your mood picks up in the near future.

And Nissan have told the EU to f-- off if they dont give us a decent deal. They will pull out of their manufacturing facilities in Spain and France and move them to the UK...We will,in such a trade war, be levying tariffs on German car imports so Nissan will clean up.

In such an eventuality they hope to increase their UK market share from 4%, as it is currently, to 20%.
So what do you think about that Mr Barnier?

And we are supposed to invest for the future with Trump at the helm in the US, Boris the Doris here, and the Chinese cooking up viruses every decade.

I wish I could invest in humanity's stupidity, I'd be the first trillionaire.

Two-thirds of China's economy remains closed

More than a dozen Chinese provinces have announced an extension of the current Lunar New Year holiday by more than a week as the nation attempts to halt the rapidly spreading coronavirus that has so far claimed 362 lives, all but one in China. The areas accounted for almost 69% of China's gross domestic product in 2019, according to Bloomberg. Economists now expect that this virus will deal a more severe blow to the economy in the near term than the SARS epidemic, which subtracted an estimated 0.8 percentage point from GDP growth in 2003

Barnier: EU to try to avoid serious no-deal consequences

European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier that the bloc hopes to start talks on the post-Brexit relationship with the United Kingdom before the end of the month and stressed that negotiations should be held on "a dozen or so" issues in parallel with the focus on those which would be most affected by a no-deal scenario at the end of the year.

Barnier noted that the UK picked to end the transition period in December, when it will leave the single market and the customs union.
Both sides should make "the best possible use" of time until then to reach an agreement on trade, as well as other issues such as security and data protection.

The EU official also stated that any post-Brexit deal with Britain must include "robust framework" to guarantee both sides are implementing it and mechanisms which will allow one side to react "rapidly and effectively" in case the other party is not respecting its commitments.
Barnier stated that the new trade agreement with the UK should aim to establish a free trade area with no tariffs or fees.
But the UK's financial services suppliers will no longer have passporting rights, while goods entering the EU from the island country will be subject to regulatory checks.

He added that the deal will have to prevent "unfair competitive advantage" long-term, as well as include an arrangement about waters access and fisheries policy.
Lastly, he pointed out that the deal should include a dispute resolution mechanism, where the European Court of Justice needs to play an effective role.

“the UK's financial services suppliers will no longer have passporting rights”

“the European Court of Justice needs to play an effective role.”

Well that all sounds like a big improvement.

We want comprehensive trade deal with EU - Johnson

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated in a speech on Monday that he is aiming for a "comprehensive" trade agreement with the European Union, similar to the one the bloc has with Canada.

He stressed that the UK is not undermining EU standards, noting several aspects in which his country has been ahead of the EU as a whole.
Hence, there is no need for the trade deal to include binding the UK to EU standards, he added.
On the other hand, Johnson pointed out, the UK will not engage in a "cutthroat race to the bottom" on trade.

The EU has said that London would have to abide by certain regulations in order to be given access to the European market with no quotas or tariffs.

"his country has been ahead of the EU as a whole"..
"His country"..not yours!
"no need for the trade deal to include binding the UK to EU standards"
Yer right that will work, and I am sure the EU will go along with that?
If not..the UK does not need a deal, aint that right Rishi Sunak, Chief Secretary to the Treasury

Boris is seriously not of this planet. He has already agreed in the political declaration to the ECJ having an EU law interpretive role which he now says will not happen. Yet he wants his word to be his bond for the EU when it comes to regulatory alignment underpinning any trade deal. He cannot see that he has a zero to negative trust coefficient. He is a full time congenital liar.

I personally don't get why the ECJ role in interpreting EU law should be contentious, but then again I am not a low IQ brexiter.

The para dealing with ECJ involvement is 131 p24

If you think the market has priced in no deal Brexit you haven’t seen anything yet.

The run on the pound in the week before we leave with no deal might swiftly change hearts and minds.
