Damage to car industry confirmedBy JOHNREDWOOD | Published: FEBRUARY 5, 2020Today's figures show that over the last year to end January new diesel car sales in the UK collapsed, falling by 36%, as a result of the heavily negative attitudes towards diesels. Petrol car sales also fell, whilst battery and hybrid sales rose strongly from a small base. Fully electric vehicles are still only 2.7% of the market. In the month of January alone overall new car sales fell by 7.3%.It comes as no pleasure to report my forecasts proved accurate when I warned that the higher tax rates, squeeze on loans, new regulations and general hostility to diesels would do damage to the new car industry.

Good news..

"Coronavirus cases remain modest in U.S"
In an update released today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 293 Americans (previously 260) are under investigation for coronavirus infection, 11 positives, 206 negatives and 76 pending.

bet they're telling the facts unlike the Chinese it seems

As the Taiwan Times reports in a report first spotted by user @TheHKGroup, over the weekend, Tencent "seems to have inadvertently released what is potentially the actual number of infections and deaths, which were astronomically higher than official figures", and were far closer to the catastrophic epidemic projections made by Jonathan Read.

Just love this response from the female labour MP whose off the shoulder dress slipped even further.

"Hello. Sorry I don’t have time to reply to all of you commenting on this but I can confirm I’m not....
A slag
Hungover
A tart
About to breast-feed
A slapper
Drunk
Just been banged over a wheelie bin."

The gal's got a good sense of humour, so wtf is she doing on the opposition benches? Mind you, she did look as if she fitted those descriptions...

Sir Keir Starmer calls for all-BAME shortlists as he proposes major reforms to make Labour 'truly representative'"

Why not just set up a party for foreigners?
All positions to be filled by foreigners only.
See how it goes.

White haters to be deported back to their country of ethnic origin where they'd clearly be happier?

Is this bloke nuts? I can see Labour just disintegrating. It's not about whether they are a man or a woman, black or white, can they do the job?

Sir Keir Starmer calls for all-BAME shortlists as he proposes major reforms to make Labour 'truly representative'

The Labour leadership frontrunner wants to change the law to allow prospective MPs to be drawn from shortlists of ethnic minority candidates

Sir Keir Starmer will push for changes to the law to enable Labour to select prospective MPs from shortlists made up of only ethnic minority candidates if he is elected leader.

Calling on Labour to become “truly representative”, the shadow Brexit secretary has unveiled a series of reforms to make the party more “open and respectful”, including establishing all-BAME shortlists.

The changes would be accompanied by new bursaries for candidates from underrepresented backgrounds and new “Labour Party College” to equip them with a political education and training to develop campaigning and leadership skills.

Whilst all-women shortlists are permitted under the Equality Act and have been repeatedly used by parties to increase female representation in Parliament, selection based on race is currently unlawful....

Minerve: 'I doubt Cheshire Pete could read most articles in the FT and understand them.'

Once again thankyou for your kind words. You are right up to a point, I buy the weekend FT and yes some of the articles are difficult to follow but often because of the way they are written i.e. beating about the bush, weasel words rather than clearly expressed arguments. Not completely stupid though and have no problem with the Telegraph or any others.

Oh dear.....

"But of course east Africa remains the hardest hit region, and UN officials are warning that a horrible famine could rapidly develop as a result of this plague. The following comes from Scientific American…

Locust swarms of biblical proportions are threatening crops across a wide swath of Africa and southwest Asia—spurring alarm among top international officials.

A major concern is famine. The United Nations is warning that mass swarms of desert locusts are endangering food supplies in eastern Africa. In response, officials in Rome mobilized an emergency briefing yesterday in a bid to raise money—noting the situation has a high potential to devolve into a full-blown crisis"

This isn't very green. htTps://apple.news/A6IOgLLgSSYuLlTq3QVEpzw"A wind turbine's blades can be longer than a Boeing 747 wing, so at the end of their lifespan they can't just be hauled away. First, you need to saw through the lissome fiberglass using a diamond-encrusted industrial saw to create three pieces small enough to be strapped to a tractor-trailer.The municipal landfill in Casper, Wyoming, is the final resting place of 870 blades whose days making renewable energy have come to end. The severed fragments look like bleached whale bones nestled against one another."
