Irish English replaces British English in EUFollowing the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union at the end of January, the EU has announced that Irish English will replace British English as the union’s primary working language.

The change, effective immediately, was announced on Monday by European Commission president Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, who says the unity of the 27 remaining countries is “grand” despite Brexit and the years of the UK “foostering about.”

“The British are just after leaving, and fair play to them for getting what they wanted,” she said. “They’ve been part of this union for donkey’s years, so I amn’t saying that we won’t miss them.”

“But we’ll be needing an English that’s more reflective of what now be our biggest English-speaking country, the Republic of Ireland,” she continued. “Starting today, all of yous will switch to Hiberno-English for all meetings and the drafting of documents, translations, and the like.”

Commission interpreter Gamini Saol says that for her, switching to Irish English won’t be much trouble as she spent six months working at a pub in Limerick.

“It’s just a question of reordering sentences, adding a few words, so it is,” she said. “This is going to be gas.”

The difference can be seen in a statement that was published on the EU homepage in late January, which referred to the UK leader as “Prime Minister Boris Johnson,” but by Feb.1 the words had been changed to “your man.”

Lose the ability to have Nuclear weapons and lose miltary powers

Would be less relevant in the UN

Inward looking

The UK got the same sinking feeling as the EU k38 . The ironic thing is every reason you want out of the EU . Scotland wants out of the UK .The difference is one does not want to isolate and is more internationalist in outlook.

I would be very happy with 65p. But I wonder what the bill for the extra payouts is going to be . Having their bonuses cut doesn't bode well.A special dividend for all the properties they've closed /sold would be nice but I'm not holding my breath on that one.Good Luck.

Bob, I am sure the sentiment is there but without answering any of the points I am afraid the case for SI is worse than Boris's case for Brexit. If Langholm was nearer to me I might pop along and hear what they have to say in a public forum. Not interested in going to Dunfermline as it is only Yes people, and that's preaching to the converted. A bit like the remain protesters/campaigners did.

No 1 carus , only one poll put yes ahead . Westminister was in such a panic they all came to Scotland and declared the vow .

This is first time we had three polls putting yes on a par or Yes ahead .

Also a lot of English people have also have come over . They have their own group at marches . Michael Russell is also English as are 5 members in my branch . Though it does not matter in the scheme of things just do not assume they are all golfers lol

yes but Bob, wasnt it the same the last time around, and the same for the Brexit referendum. The polls were simply wrong. Just checked back on the last indy ref numbers. 10% of the 2 million no voters would have to change their mind. There is also a percentage of Nationalist that dont want to be part of the EU, ie they want to be independent. Do you honestly think now is the right time to hold a SI referendum without actually knowing what the UK's relationship with the EU is going to be. I'm sitting on the fence here, just trying to work out where is the logic in holding one before say summer 2021 when there would be a lot more knowns.

One of the UK’s leading pollsters has warned that Brexit has put the union at risk after another survey showed a narrow lead for Scottish independence.
Sir John Curtice, of the University of Strathclyde, said the poll by Panelbase putting the yes vote at 52% confirmed a trend showing a gradual increase in support for leaving the UK, post-Brexit.



Three polls in the past five days had put the yes vote at 50% or higher. “The pursuit of Brexit is putting support for the union at risk, that’s the very clear lesson,” Curtice said.

Have seen internal data for my local area we are seeing 57 per cent now .

I think I calculated something like an 18% change of heart for the no to SI group to make up the short fall of the pro independence group. Sounds unlikely. Together with the 400K English that work up here and a proportion of their spouses are unlikely to go for SI. They should just bring it on then take it off the table for the next 50 years. Plus what is the time table. And what's the point before we know if it would mean having a physical border with the rest of the UK, terms of re-entry to the EU and what shekles do we use. Give me these answers then I can maybe start to form an opinion about whether leaving a post brexit UK is a good idea or not.
