Could well be political leverage for getting more vaccines from EU. Who knows....

closing borders now is not the answer, especially given that we know, the virus cannot be eradicated. Vaccine passports are the only solution, now and in the future.
The airlines are developing their own APP for this purpose and it seems a sensible approach.
Israel is an example of what happens when you open borders after an effective vaccination program.

UK may impose tougher border measures very soon to prevent the arrival COVID variants from EU. Boris Johnson said to a parliamentary panel that "We will take a decision, no matter how tough, to interrupt that trade, to interrupt those flows if we think that is necessary to protect public health and to stop new variants coming in". If this transpires how can EU holidays for Brits be justified?

I would be wary of buying into Ryanair bullishness and hype. Clever PR, but perhaps more to do with getting bookings and your money into their account. Memories of 'Jab and Go' in January - book to fly in Easter holidays. Meanwhile, BA reducing schedules.

15C and great warm sunshine across most of the UK today
20C across most of Europe.
People need to look ahead to the future not behind - in just a months time we will be in May, in 2 months June & in the thick of the Euros & then Wimbledon.
Every UK and US adult will have been vaccinated.
When it's mid Summer and 30C-40C outside and sunny do you think people will remain inside and stuck in lockdown? No.
Sentiment will change - holidays and cruises will resume

It really depends on the EU vaccination program. US markets down yesterday due to concerns in EU and spread of variants, third wave. Oil price also down over 6% yesterday on lower demand forecast. It is all down to EU vaccination efforts as far as summer travel is concerned. Min 70% vaccination of population needed for herd immunity and safety. This is how it stands as as at 21 March 2021 per 100 population for popular EU tourist destinations. Cyprus 14.78 - Greece 13.78 - Portugal 13.22 - Italy 12.97 - Spain 12.82 - France 12.58 - Germany 12.5 - Belgium 12.14 - Netherlands 11.03.

Just watched Preston being interviewed and he says that this EU Vaccine blocking thing , along with BoJO's travel blockade is all Politics designed to soften the UK public into giving the EU some of our vaccine allocation, based on the fact that it is in our interest if the EU opens up travel earlier !

Politics !!!!

Slippery slope back down to 1.50 methinks. And I bought yesterday before Boris's £5000 fine announcement. Doh! I suspect couple months before we get back to dizzy heights of 2 squid.

There are 2 issues. 1. Even after vaccination, one can potentially still catch covid and pass it on, so if Europe and other countries are not adequately vaccinated, they won't let us in; 2. even when vaccinated one can catch a variant abroad and import it. The good news is that they've pretty much all got our biggest EU export, namely, the Kent variant.

Nothing new there , they have always said there will be waves and that the virus will not be eradicated.
he also said the 'wave' will be met with a wall of people who have already been vaccinated, ( over 50% of adults in the UK) which will have a substantial effect on any 'wave' from the EU.
