BREAKING - GREECE & SPAIN TO EASE RESTRICTIONS ON FLIGHTS FROM UK
Greek tourism minister - 'From sometime in mid-April we should be able to accept UK citizens, and those from other highly vaccinated countries, to test the new rules at a few entry points, not all 20 airports, but the ones most commonly used, such as Corfu, Heraklion in Crete, Athens and Thessaloniki.”
The UK is our No 2 source market and so it’s very important for us
Our scientists tell me with the vaccination programmes moving forward both in Greece and the UK, the weather helping as it did last year, and with all the restrictions in place limiting spread of the disease, things will be much better by mid-May,” he said.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Spanish government announced that restrictions on flights from the UK would be lifted on 30 March to bring them in line with arrivals from the Schengen area.

“Flight restrictions will remain in place for flights from South Africa and Brazil, but not for those from the United Kingdom,” the government’s spokeswoman, María Jesús Montero, told a press conference.

Third wave theory........The scientists stated some time ago, that there will be 'waves' of infection data, as it will never go away.

You may be right about the politics behind BoJo's third wave theory , which is why this shouldn't be left to politicians, playing with our lives for their own purposes.

The airline Industry and the people employed by it, have taken a massive hit from BoJo's games and his appallingly bad management of this situation. For example, locking down now when he didn't initially and leaving the borders open throughout.

Anyway back to today.....life has to go on, or we all live like the uyhgars in China, being told what we can and cannot do at any time of the day or night

They are now saying the death rate is lower than it should be for this time of year !
If it continues at this rate, BoJo will have no choice but to open up.

BTW does anyone know how many MP's have been made redundant, lost their jobs or been placed on furlough during this whole mess ?

M1k3y1....I do hope you are right - like I said, I'm long on travel. Things must start again or it will be catastrophic for an industry and its supply chain. I think this political flip-flopping is a nonsense and jeopardises good businesses, jobs and so on - but I am wary that politicians generally can easily just shrug their shoulders and move on. It is not their money. Indeed, how can we possibly be in the same position as last year regarding summer holidays, when we have had vaccines available since November?! On BoJo - read between the lines on EU third wave 'can wash up on our shores' - makes me wonder if he is teeing up to blame the EU for holidays postponement or cancellation. That may support his Brexit argument and UK fall out with the EU.

1krl....I agree , Politicians are making this more difficult than it needs to be.
Ultimately, pressure from the public and businesses will dictate whether the timelines change .

Let's not forget the thousands of commercial vehicles that are still crossing the channel every day.
Or maybe that isn't classed as international travel !

I cannot see how BoJo expects to get re-elected again!

I do agree with Mike's viewpoint. The problem is however the political perspective being played out by governments. It changes willy-nilly and causes so much confusion and varying understandings.

I find the above such a naive post.

This stock will hit the 140’s soon enough.

The number of UK deaths will prove the sceptics wrong
17 yesterday.

If it continues to drop, people will put pressure on BoJo to amend the timelines.
This nonsense about bringing back mutant strains from overseas, is frankly ridiculous.

Maybe you shouldn't travel anywhere , in case you bring back something, like Malaria, Cholera, smallpox, yellow fever, etc etc etc

Covid and it's variants will not disappear, we have already been informed of this, so you can either be in permanent lockdown and never travel anywhere ever again, or you learn to live with it , as with other diseases.

Summer travel was looking good a few weeks ago and I am currently long, but unfortunately politics, botched EU vaccine roll out, increased EU lockdowns, fear over COVID variants and now US officials' concerns over efficacy of AZ vaccine are taking their toll. It is possible that this summer will not be as we had hoped - so be aware of the risks. Negative views gaining momentum.

Wrong this third wave is going to hit again and see off international summer season which will really impact on flights.

I can see iag getting marked down considerably lower over the coming days and weeks. This will hit 140.

However it would not surprise me if we see it much much lower than the 140’s

Traffic light system, the fact we'll all be vaccinated (we're close to the target already) and foreign tourism is desperate for us should see to that.

Conflicting info, lockdown restrictions to end 21st June yet foreign travel ban to be extended till end June.
I suspect another heavy red day here.

During the last lockdown they couldn't keep R below 1, so unless we're all being really good boys and girls (not "bumping" into yer mates out walking) or the numbers are being manipulated, it's hands down vaccine response.Coming up to half the entire country being vaccinated (first dose@85% effective) and it's only March. I think we only need 60% vaccinated and job done. All this panic over travel is just b/s and media hype.

You may be correct.
It would be helpful to see a similar drop in the positive numbers tested as well.

m1k3y1
22/3/2021

The problem they have is that they can't be sure whether the reduction in numbers is down to the vaccine or the lockdown. That's most likely why they are waiting for the numbers to drop and vaccinations to increase.

Just warn everyone on here to ignore brexit moron topaz and his investment advice, this is a guy who thought Aston Martin was a blindingly good investment haha.

Bet you wish you’d bought Tesla as I kept telling you ad nauseam on that thread.

What I said last week and why I took profits on IAG unfolding, if you want to buy recovery stocks buy usa, not U.K., buy the Jets etf for airlines and AMC if you want cinemas....I wouldnt touch restaurants pubs etc on either side of the Atlantic apart from Maccy D’s who OWN all their sites.
