Well, I'm hoping that other vaccines take up the slack but Germany and Italy have infection spikes just now

Exactly. This is an absolutely tiny % of overall deaths but the hype has been massive from the start. There are 50-60,000 deaths in an average month in the UK. It's all there on the ONS website.

So as many as 2,000 deaths every single day from NON-Covid diseases, be that Cancer, COPD, Asthma, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Stroke, Heart Attacks, Road Traffic Accidents, Suicides, Sepsis.

52 deaths vs 2,000 from Non Covid illnesses. Wear masks, socially distance, wash your hands yes but the economy and travel, hospitality must reopen ASAP.

When will the government start publishing cancer deaths then.Or suicides, deaths on the roads...The Covid numbers are absolutely trivial now.

The results lag by 2 weeks. Let's see what April 12th brings.

5,500 new cases out of a population of 68 million.
UK testing has doubled over the past week due to schools yet cases are flat/fallen which means the positivity rate is dropping fast.
Should we not just accept already that we will just have to live with this virus best we can with masks, distancing etc. instead of hiding in our homes for the next year or two?

UK, US, Israeli cases and deaths continue to fall despite number of tests increasing with schools reopening.

The vaccines work!

Some European countries are now paying for the delays in vaccine roll out.

Might as well let it go bust if the government doesn't want us to have any airlines.

Starting to get a bit ridiculous. Do they propose having the whole country in a semi permanent lockdown even though almost 50% have received the vaccination ?

But its too early to book another holiday says the government. We night get a third wave. And a 4th, 5th.This winter will be bad with flu deaths. And rinse and repeat.

Good point re China.I think the Meghan coverage was based on who paid the largest bung...obviously Meg.No-one actually cares about two nobody's who couldn't hack royal life. Harry who? Imagine the productive time wasted by all of us just reading the headlines, let alone watching the interview.

Has anybody noticed that we don't hear about the state of covid in China??? Instead are having Megan Merkle and ex-prince Hairy shoved down our throats on loop.

Unfortunately, I have underlying health conditions. I'll most likely divert my attention to researching the effectiveness of the other vaccines available globally with a view to visiting those far-off places just to get a shot of something proven to work against variants -I'm not leaving my fate in the hands of the conservatories or the labiors.

The article doesn't say the AZN is not as effective and I suspect, in time, it will be proven to be .

Opens the door to vaccine discrimination, I've only had my first shot and it's AZN. Would have preferred the Pfizer.

There will come a time, very soon, where they will have no option but to open up.
The NHS will just have to deal with any sick people and the general public will have to accept being vaccinated.
Vaccinations will improve and the impact of the virus will reduce.

The alternative is no international travel and successive, never ending lockdowns, as they admit the virus will never be completely eradicated.
