IF the government relaxes it's 14 day quarantine rule for foreigners coming into the UK and we see a surge of infections, it will not hesitate on reimposing the rule.

When one compares the number of Brits who holiday in Spain with the number Spaniards coming to the UK, the Spanish minister who stated that Spain will reciprocate if the UK continues with the rule, must be barking mad.

I also know some staff moving to IAG are not taking a pay cut..yes some T&C changes which may or may not impact them this time next year....but pay kept the same for now.

All in all, I can’t see a permanently lower share price. I actually feel we will
See a significant climb by this time next year. Sure if you are trading, probably not for you.

Many airlines are giving up significant market share. The overall demand has only temporarily been lost and truly believe air transport will be on its same 3-5% growth path once we are through the policy makers gross over reaction to Covid.

Jailbird.Bang on.No way will the redundancies be 12/13k.You only need 1 person to have a 50/60% pay cut and the media will jump on it and say that is for everybody. The only way to sort this out is for scouser mcClusky to sit down and negotiate, but he wont because all he is worried about is the the loss of union subs when these people leave. When I left the company, the first phone call i received was from the union treasurer, virtually begging me to voluntarily keep paying union fees, because of all the benefits I would receive. For gods sake, I'd retired and had no intention of seeking further employment,so why did I need a union,I'd done 40+ years and in that time they were completely useless.

Let see Smithy...

Europa Air will complete a monoploy of Spain...surprised it is permitted to be honest.
It is about taking the slots there to merge with Iberia.

I agree about the 12-13k redundancy figure..it will be lower I feel.

Throw out worst case scenario/offer and then negotiate from that point.
Always been this way.

Totally prudent to reduce workers in a quiet period, then re-them on different T&C's when demand picks up.
In a year, Covid will be but a memory. Media headlines talking of 'spikes' then 2/3rds of the way down the article it's 20 people... Click bait.

They haven’t sacked a third of their staff. Redundancies aren’t due to start til July at the earliest. My read? The notices were put out as a hedge. What was there to lose from issuing the notice? Try and milk T and C, you can always turn off a notice. To that end, 13000 is worst credible. Reality will be somewhat different, particularly if IAG win the case against quarantine.

Also, Why are IAG dropping 1 billion on Air Europa if you care convinced demand Will be hit so hard? Do you go out and buy another shop on the high street when you are expecting the one you already own to drop demand by 1/3? NCov is yesterday’s papers, has a much lower case fatality than originally feared and we are now seeing daily falls in infections and fatalities in Brazil, who took literally no measures. Virgin is going bust, pre-pack still very much on t he table with their bond holders looking as if they are about to get their pants pulled down good and proper. Lufthansa have reduced capacity and they nearly went bust in 2019 anyhow. Norwegian is finished in the Euro Longhaul market and certainly out of The U.K. with its U.K. AOC.

IMHO, We will be seeing significant APK demand with no supply by March next year. Blue chip employee travel restrictions are now being reduced. Are we honestly expecting a 100-1000 outbreak in China is going to make any difference? All it will do is further convince policy makers that locking down is completely pointless. NCov isn’t going anywhere until enough people have been exposed to develop immunity. Well, looks as if Brazil, the U.K. and the USA are already well at the front of that race.

Little fact for you. 1 in 70 tested protesters in the USA case back Covid positive. Expand that across the USA, there are 5 million active cases in the USA today, with a daily mortality less than 500 deaths per day.

3 Hats,

You make a valid point overlooked about about losing 30% of the workforce.

What this means?

Airlines within the group will become smaller fleets

Negatives - less planes/flights, less revenues, hedged higher oil prices for rest of year at least. reduced passenger loads

Positives - reduced costs to counter balance reduced revenues, Europa Air to add capacity next year.
Potential to take up slots of any failed airlines( unknown yet)

While Monty may not be back today IAG is going up because the rest of the market is not on its own merit. BA as a brand has been shot to pieces and will take a very long time to recover if it ever does. They are also bleeding cash and will continue to do so likely for years. At any rate the current share price is far too high, nobody can seriously believe that having sacked 1/3rd of their staff they are going to be able to be meaningfully profitable for years if they are at all during that period. Not sure why there are so many people so optimistic and not producing good reasons to be optimistic either...

I'm still holding off for now...

There were still 1500 new infections reported yesterday and looks like China might have the beginnings of a 2nd wave if they fail to contain it in Beijing.
