30/11/2008 17:25 | A steady ship in a very rough sea at the mo. Nice visibility of earnings/growth etc. Great track record and the type of company that will lead from the front when normality eventually returns. Could be some time though. | chrismcglone
30/11/2008 16:10 | welcome Simon | cambium
29/11/2008 19:25 | Gentlemen, I know little of GDWN. But it looks to be a very successful company in prospect. At least that is what I was told and why I bought. Simon Cawkwell | simon cawkwell
29/11/2008 11:59 | Firm, CR ? Just wait for the interims next month. They'll speak for themselves. | jimmy tarbuck
28/11/2008 18:34 | been pretty firm of late old GDWN - which is nice :-) CR | cockneyrebel

28/11/2008 17:18 | After some umming and aahing, I decided that there was no better place to invest my GDWN dividend than back into the company itself. I have done this every year since I initially bought Goodwin into my ISA in 2001/02. Re-investing the dividend is a great wealth-builder. Mine is the 321 trade on Plus at 16.07. More importantly, let's not forget that the half-yearly figures are out in December. Will they be as good as last time ? I believe they'll be better. | jimmy tarbuck
28/11/2008 15:42 | With his track record on long bets that's a sell signal then. | the big fella
28/11/2008 15:39 | Simon Calkwell (aka Evil Knievil) has announced this morning that he has bought in. | chrismcglone
26/11/2008 12:53 | wonder what has prompted this mornings rise, I hold | scottishfield
17/11/2008 08:13 | Goodwin are holding up relatively well in this shambles. If they really can push up profits in this climate then it bodes well for the future. | bigalan3
06/11/2008 11:23 | are they going to rns it? | cambium
06/11/2008 10:26 | Cheers - been holding up well lately - a nice one to have in the background and sit on and wait imo. Thanks for that dasv. CR | cockneyrebel
06/11/2008 10:24 | you don't hear that very often these days "The company is trading well and the Chairman was confident. The future is bright" | dasv

31/10/2008 13:23 | From the Chairman's latest annual statement: "The strength of the Euro against Sterling now gives us an opportunity to develop increased business in Europe. The principal risks and uncertainties faced by the company relate to the possible substantial weakening in the strength of the US Dollar against Sterling, the US Dollar being the currency in which over 60% of the Group's worldwide turnover is traded." So yes, the strengthening $ seems to be good news for Goodwin I can see GDWN's price strengthening over the next two weeks. Outside of the substantial holders, the shares are widely held in ISAs in which people re-invest the dividend due on November 7th (next Friday). Even the directors hold some stock in ISAs. Bought at over £10 too...! DIRECTORS' SHAREHOLDINGS "The Company received notification on 15th January 2008 of the following transactions in which Mr. J. W. Goodwin and Mr R S Goodwin, directors of the Company, are interested. The purchase on 11th January 2008 of 1,059 ordinary shares in the capital of the Company by S. R. Goodwin into his ISA account at a price of £10.25 per share. The purchase on 11th January 2008 of 666 ordinary shares in the capital of the Company by B. R. E Goodwin into his ISA account at a price of £10.49 per share." Time to hold firm. | jimmy tarbuck
27/10/2008 18:04 | falling £ helps GDWN - sleep on this one imo. CR | cockneyrebel
27/10/2008 16:59 | fair enough. I have taken some huge hits on many decent resource shares. I have not sold however. I am just living with the paper losses. Don't need the money for forseeable future and my living costs keep dropping - virtually no mortgage. I took on a bit more work in my job so salary is upped 20% overnight so nothing to worry about. I particularly think oil and gold stocks are oversold at these levels but increasingly so are oil services. As for industrial metals: unbelievable discounts to NAV. FXPO now on a forward PE of about 1-1.5. Check out ORE (not a buy recommendation but valued at 50% of cash on the books). Both keep falling though. GDWN seems to have stabilised touch-wood. | dasv
20/10/2008 14:56 | I took a big hit in RBS dasv so i am still licking my wounds. However, i dipped my toe back into the market for the first time in a while with a purchase of BLT the other day. £8 was too tempting. Even if they fall further, some companies ar at great prices. That's why i am looking at GDWN. Industrial Engineering in a global recession just makes me cautious and that's why i think i may get a chance to buy this cheaper. | chrismcglone
20/10/2008 14:22 | "why wait?" - well personally speaking, because it's been extremely traumatic watching what investments I do have get decimated.. I do have cash waiting in the wings but it's hard to fight the instinct to keep it uninvested. I have however tripled my SIPP contributions and may up them 50% more... | dasv
20/10/2008 13:59 | dasv, the sell-off has simply been way overdone. The big drop in copper has played a big role IMO. On a 12-18mth view it is a cracking buy, as are many of the other smaller caps. As i said above, it's not quite time yet but at some point in 2009 i reckon the buying opportunity of a lifetime will present itself. However, why wait. Warren B. obviously thinks we are already in value territory. | chrismcglone
20/10/2008 12:01 | chris, (O/T) wtf is up with YAU? | dasv
20/10/2008 10:13 | Tempted to make my first purchase at these levels but i still don't think the market has bottomed. Still too much bad news to come. Job losses, recession etc. At some point there is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lay down a portfolio of outstanding companies but we're not quite there yet. I think this market has at least one big capitulation plunge left in it yet. | chrismcglone |
