25/9/2008 10:00 | The purchases took place under an automatic trigger instruction and he only became aware ofthem on return from an overseas business trip. LOL | cambium
23/9/2008 12:31 | it looks like dyer will be in the diarrhoea for not reporting these transactions for 2 weeks! | kneecaps2
23/9/2008 11:09 | yeah was wondering too... | dasv
23/9/2008 10:50 | Director buying :-) Wondered what triggered the rise. CR | cockneyrebel
15/9/2008 15:10 | yep, VIX and sellers prepared to sell at the wrong time imo. CR | cockneyrebel
15/9/2008 14:18 | oh well yet more irrational pricing as panic ensues. There seems to be something in buying equities when VIX tops 30 and sell when it bottoms. Not that I ever do :( | dasv
15/9/2008 13:53 | With £1 spread the punters don't want to buy till they see the whites of their eyes :-) CR | cockneyrebel

11/9/2008 14:00 | Energy services company John Wood Group said it has completed the acquisition of Irish subsea engineering firm MCS. MCS had a gross asset value of 11.4m at the end of December 2007, Wood Group said without disclosing price details. Thats good I think, because Goodwin have supplied MCS before and may get contact in with Wood now | cambium
10/9/2008 12:05 | Any currency gains depend on the extent of hedging which is undisclosed. No mention of Hoben or Internet Central in the annual report. Still a good company. | mw8156
09/9/2008 18:47 | Good point. Energy prices have topped too so further out energy price reductions should also be a plus. CR | cockneyrebel
09/9/2008 18:19 | Dont forget that the commodity prices are also falling which should help reduce material costs and hence improve the bottom line. All in all I feel CRs estimate of 120p for the full year might be an underestimation...:o | nurdin
09/9/2008 17:52 | Clive1 - bit difficult comparing Q with Q, you have to compare past Q with matching Q last year due to seasonality imo. GDWN deal a lot with China - things like Olympics, Chinese New year and other variables mean that certain payment and order points might fall into different quarters. I'd say we were pretty lucky here even to get a Q1 earnings update - there are not many companies even in the FTSE100 who give quarterly guidance with earnings detail. If you were looking at the earnings of any other co you'd only see half year on half year comparisons. If Q2 was only the same as Q1 the Half year eps compared to last year would be up 20%. Personally, with the falling £ I think Q2 will start to see the currency gains and Q3 and Q4 really start to benefit. Sometimes more detail is too much detail - if you only see the half year numbers you are none the wiser as to how those earnings fell in which quarter imo. CR CR | cockneyrebel
09/9/2008 17:29 | Clive, I believe there are seasonal differences here. Q1 tends to be the weakest quarter - I'm sure that will be confirmed by the more knowledgeable on this board. | 1q
09/9/2008 17:10 | Q1 profits up to 2.46 million pounds from 2.03 million last time, while revenues increased to 21.91 million pounds. For the last full year revenue was 80.78 pounds and pretax was 9.8 million. 7.21 mln stg profit for the nine-month period ended Jan 31, on revenue of 57.65 mln. This means the previous period Q4 results were 2.59 mln profit and 23.13mln revenue superior to the latest figures. Is this a cause for concern or is Q1 always weaker than the rest of the year | clive1
09/9/2008 16:40 | yep, 26%, I must buy a new calcularor :-) Amazed anyone is taking profits - must just be the whoosey general market. Currency gains coming and they will be more competitive in the US and in Europe now too with the £ fall v Euro. The SRS acquisition will start to add from the coming months in a more meaningful way I expect too. CR | cockneyrebel
09/9/2008 14:29 | In fact a 26% rise in eps from the previous Q1. Great perfomance again. | 1q
09/9/2008 14:12 | Yep, Q2 and Q3 have been the stronger Q's in the past too. If they also benefit from the $ rise 120p might even get slaughtered for the year :-) CR | cockneyrebel
09/9/2008 14:08 | Bloonin' heck. Didn't expect the figures through that quick ! But they look good again. Eps now 24p. Good rise from Q1 last year. | 1q
09/9/2008 14:07 | IMS out - Q1 eps up around 23% - 23.9p :-) v 19.1p last year. That's Q1 to July - that's before the $ had started to appreciate too - had the $ already gained v £ that would be more like 27p+. Q2 should be even better and start to see some of the gains from the $ rise. Gonna do 120p+ eps this year imo :-) CR | cockneyrebel
09/9/2008 12:57 | Let's not forget that Gooodwin's Q1 results for the current year are due around 19th September (based on last year) - i.e. NEXT WEEK. That should provide another shot in the arm - and maybe some buying ahead of these results. | 1q |
