08/1/2019 10:24 | I would say that China is a great additional opportunity but that the gaming market in Europe and the U.S. will continue to go from strength to strength. Since Tencent's investment in FDEV we haven't really had much information about their involvement with FDEV beyond the plan to assist the release of FDEV games on WeGame in China. That took a hit last year, with the government block on game approvals in China, but that does now seem to be coming to an end. So, are there other plans for cooperation between FDEV and Tencent? Are the reasons beyond what we already know that the wife of FDEV's NED from Tencent invested so heavily in FDEV shares recently? Only time will tell. | mark4231
08/1/2019 10:05 | I think Ten Cent's involvement is more important than people might know Times are changing. China is where things are going,in my opinion. | hazl
08/1/2019 10:02 | Ah thanks. | hazl
08/1/2019 09:20 | Hi Hazl the long winded answer is I got into FDEV after the Tencent investment and continued buying a lot - up to about £12. I started selling some at £17 and had sold everything by the time they breached £12. This was more to do with luck than judgement as I needed to buy a home and sell a flat. This time around I have finished all those shenanigans and I have bought back 1.5x what I had with a 7.70 average. This is one of those stocks that I would be happy holding for 5 years with the stock market shut because I have confidence in the management and the companies ability to create great gaming experiences, so yes I plan to hold long term. Like everyone though - if a chance to take half off the table at 100% plus comes along I may do so depending on how I feel! Because of the small shares in issue point this stock is more pi driven than people realise, despite it having a market cap over £300 mil - I don't think we have had one holdings rns about an institution selling any during the large falls in q4 last year. | nimbo1
08/1/2019 09:10 | The current display of volatility already in the share price this morning is a very good example of what happens when there aren't many shares in issue and comes down to whether you are a trader or not,how you deal with it. I hope these go from strength to strength! | hazl
08/1/2019 09:06 | Thank you for a very good post nimbo. I know you are often a long-termer...so is it your intention to hold throughout? I must confess I know nothing about the gaming industry but it is clearly very lucrative. Thanks for your insights everybody. | hazl
08/1/2019 08:29 | Hi Hazl, FDEV is a multi year compounding story. In 5 years time there will be another 5+ franchises. All with updates and DLC's. Game titles according to braben can have shelf life of 8 years in his opinion before you get Elite 2 for example. I think their model, and people like paradox and Take Two are proving this - the people in danger are Activision etc as they rely on releasing a new blockbuster every year of the same franchise (i.e. COD 8 etc) to generate their huge revenues and justify their market caps. For the long term I hope your buy with a £7 handle will prove very astute. There are now no barriers to selling to the entire world due to the proliferation of online sales channels - meaning the developers are linked directly to their consumers. If you visit the pages of the FDEV chat rooms / reddit you can see FDEV communicating directly with their player bases - taking their suggestions on board and making improvements to the game. hxxps://forums.front hxxps://www.reddit.c We'll see £15 + again but I don't know within what timeframe, depends on the market I suspect. | nimbo1
08/1/2019 08:14 | thanks again endion...I agree that there aren't many shares in issue and when I did my initial research at the weekend....the Times article was the trigger I must confess....I thought it would be a good one to get into to see evidence of whether there would be a boost or not. That is compared to the rest in a technical sense. It is also probably more well known. Let's hope for another good day! | hazl
08/1/2019 07:10 | Nice one simon!!! | square1
08/1/2019 07:07 | Great...the bitter shorter is back I'll respond on Endion's behalf From the annual report FY18: (thats the most recent one for you Yank) "The ongoing performance of both titles reflects Frontier’s approach to sustaining and nurturing existing franchises. It is worth noting that Elite Dangerous achieved its highest annual revenues to date in FY18 " In your posts you don't seem to understand how FY's work. Your now filtered Yank, can't be doing with your nonsense. | simonshare
08/1/2019 01:37 | endion, Thank you for posting that press quote from the CFO. I do not know why he's telling the press Elite Dangerous has just has its most successful year financially yet saying quite different in the annual report. If ED performance news is that good, I am surprised he's not released it to the shareholders and market. | yankhanson
08/1/2019 01:21 | Hi hazl, yep Im around here. I posted that over on LSE i think, as well as here probably. I think the news from China may have given the gaming sector a bit of a shift back into the blue. Hopefully it will trigger a new bullish wave to break what was a pretty dismal Q4 across the entire sector. We should be in line now for a fair amount of good news, especially when comparing income/profits to previous years. Also, there arent all that many shares in issue for Fdev, so prices can move more sharply and swiftly than what some here may be used to. | endion
07/1/2019 22:25 | Not sure of the reason for the rise today, nice to be up sharply though. Perhaps related to recent press articles about gaming hxxps://www.thetimes or in anticipation of an upcoming trading update/first half results/other potential news or developments as discussed on this thread? | mark4231
07/1/2019 21:59 | What's the reason for today's surge? I persomally don't like roller coasters... | alotto
07/1/2019 18:28 | Trading update this Thursday me thinks, build up to it by the looks......about chuffing time! Lol. | discodave4
07/1/2019 17:27 | As I understand it the new downloadable content for JWE went down really well (and stimulated new game sales as well). Coupled with probably 15pc net cash on the balance sheet and hopefully some momentum from news on the next franchise and I feel this could be a pretty good year for Fdev. My entry could have been better but that applies to most trades I made in Q4 lol. | brokenbuckles
07/1/2019 17:18 | Ooh sogoesit! How super. Now I know I made the right decision! | hazl
07/1/2019 16:47 | Hi hazl; good to see you here. Hope you've recently entered... in which case a better entry point than me (-;! Good luck! | sogoesit
07/1/2019 16:12 | IT'S quite refreshing to see who is here. I often don't look at bbs before I buy because it can influence my decisions, but occasionally I regret it(not looking)! | hazl
07/1/2019 16:07 | Agree with all of those nimbo, plus, anything related to the following paragraph which was in the last Annual Results. "External partnerships are an important element within our plans and such opportunities are likely to include third party publishing (controlling the promotion and distribution of other developers' games), commissioning (outsourcing the majority of development of Frontier games to other developers), and enhancing the Group's franchise portfolio or capabilities via acquisitions." | mark4231
07/1/2019 15:59 | Hi Hazl, yes my largest position now with an average price of 7.7 forgetting profits from the last cycle. Things coming up I hope China freeze unwinding - nice rns about PC and JWE being sold through Tencent's platform in China. Might take some time though, as so far as I have read new games are now receiving permission to be sold again, however tencent haven't according to the ft. Yet. Positive trading update potentially above expectations revenue expected for this FY, even if it's inline it will still be good given they raised expectations after launch of JWE. Next franchise details Confirmation to market of paid for content for Elite - this has been confirmed on internet chatrooms etc but not by FDEV via earnings release or rns. Perhaps as its dlc it isn't worthy of an rns - but it will be very lucrative. All imo. | nimbo1
07/1/2019 15:41 | 'A streaming revolution offers opportunities for the UK's thriving video games developers.Companies such as Frontier Developments.,Codema from Yesterday's Times | hazl
07/1/2019 14:36 | Ah I see nimbo is here as well... | hazl
07/1/2019 14:29 | Its not only FDEV's actions/sales etc. that affect its SP, the general market does too obviously, but by what percentage I wonder. It would seem in good times (and in a year when it has put out a new game) that its share price flies. I'm no mathematician but some of you are here, so 10%, 20 or more? Well, maybe some very good news below, at the least it's good news... hxxps://moneyweek.co It is only time being the main parameter for this bear market to end, and the drama, fear and overselling tempting investors to be bold again, buy when others are fearful etc. I'm looking forward to news of the new franchise and year end results. | rar100 |
