24/10/2007 16:56 | can only think the legal battle is being lost as it's only CKN that seems to be weak in the sector - got stopped out today :-( CR | cockneyrebel
23/10/2007 10:38 | Weak dollar holding this back? I'm sure that must have a big effect on profits | sambessey
23/10/2007 09:26 | CKN seem to be missing out at the moment, BDI still rising,GOC GLBS and now BMS romping away. Bought a few more. | martincc

Our forward order book of business is at a record level and significantly higher than at the beginning of the year.' 'Our non-broking businesses are now contributing approximately one quarter of the Group's profits.' 'The outlook for the second half of the year remains favourable. The level of business already concluded this year means that we can be confident that the full year out-turn should see good growth over last year.' | spob

18/10/2007 11:09 | Chart getting ready for next leg up - shipping co's galloping lately and rates soaring :-) CR | cockneyrebel
12/10/2007 20:02 | Ckn are indeed the largest shipbroking firm in the world and have a greater exposure to the dry cargo market than BMS, they also have a larger, more active drycargo broking team than BMS, who, although are a first class shipbroking outfit are more 'wet' ie (oil) tanker orientated. The tanker market is not having anything like the boom that drycargo is. The dryships link is good in that it shows you the latest index and values. However the Estimated Cape and Panamax rates are way out of date so take no notice of them. Today a panamax is worth over $90000/day for 4/6 months and $82000 for 12 months. The drycargo market is experiencing a boom like never before. Ckn must be making a packet...the 1.25% they earn on each deal they do is worth considerably more now than it was a year ago. They also broke the sale of ships, here the 1% they are likely to pick up is also worth considerably more than even a few weeks ago. (In august a panamax of 75000 mt dwat built say 1999 was worth around $60 million today the same ship sells for $80 million). Whether Ckn are fairly valued or not I've no idea, however I have a few and I'm not selling! The stock market does strange things though and to see the way a share like for instance Xstrata have jumped up and down in the last couple of days just goes to show there's little logic in this game!! | basil mavroleon
12/10/2007 15:03 | yep amazing rises | cambium
12/10/2007 14:44 | appears to be 10,695 actually, here: | amitkoth
12/10/2007 08:00 | bdi breaks through the ten thousand 10218 flippin - hec! | cambium
12/10/2007 00:30 | I'm a long-time follower and holder of CKN but no expert on the shipping industry. However it does seem as though the rising freight rates around the world must be contributing something to this rise. Tiddlers like Global Oceanic (GOC) are citing freight rates as the main reason for their rising profits. | sandbank
11/10/2007 19:34 | welcome back CR | cambium
11/10/2007 18:51 | CR - you may also want to have a look at GOC. Same sector, and also at ATH | nirvs |
