has the Baltic shipping index moved significantly? if not then I agree this could be stake building? OR, has anyone got the latest broker notes as the eps figure seems to have gone through the roofwith 130p forecast for year after next?? Thanks and looking forward to breaking the £10 barrier Monday

OK, so if it's not a settlement with the Russians, and not an agreed bid, could it be a hostile bid? In the past the board has been able to fend off the approaches Fulford-Smith has alluded to. Could some of the major shareholders feel it's time to throw in the towel given the litigation is unlikely to come to court 'til late 2009?

so why own Clarkson????? Good question slapdash and I'd come up with similar negatives but the one that really stands out is their completely disproportionate staff bonus system. Last year was a good year admittedly, in that EPS increased nearly 40%, however distributed earnings (i.e. the dividend) rose only 11% and retained earnings stayed largely flat.......in large due to their very generouus renumeration scheme which saw staff bonuses increase by just over 100% from 23M to 48M. So, a great Company to work for but not such a good one to be invested in, imo. The volatility will no doubt provide trading oppotunities which indeed I have taken advantage of in the past; but again given some of the other issues such as the litigation, there is the potential to be badly caught out on a trade as well, so I'll be steering well clear at present!

bluenose.... I think my opinion would be this.. one can disagree or agree with the market's view but to make money it is best not to ignore it... I looked at these but they are too volatile.... also the shipping cycle is probably at the top of its peak while they are highly rated in comparison to the ship owning companies.... these firms have more visibility too... they are goldenport... global oceanic and a couple of others... so why own Clarkson????? Everything is usually very positive and the fundamentals are usually screaming out at the top.... but ironically then it is the time to sell.... so I don't own and wouldn't buy... Slap

World sentiment i.e. there may be a recession, legal case (cash is covered by reserves if CKN loose) SHipping downgrades by some funds. Fuel costs ever spiralling Last statement by board, i.e. they will not be immune to a workd wide down turn I'd say that pretty much covers the low price. That said, what a company, its a bit too early for me to get back in but buy low sell high!

I dont understand this. From what I can see all that Clarkson have done is act as broker in this deal with the Russians. IF they do lose this case, surely the share price has taken this into account?. Could there be more litigation? Slap, what are your thoughts Blue

At 690p CKN is certainly cheaper than BMS and was a good buy if you could get it.

Slap, as I posted on the other CKN thread these are excellent results, but the markdown says it all - there's another large previously undisclosed legal claim against CKN now disclosed. The ongoing legal expenses are stacking up too. BMS is just as cheap, is perhaps less exposed to any sector cylicality now than CKN, and is risk-free, unlike CKN. Which is why I hold BMS and not CKN.
