14/1/2017 16:29 | I went through that process rebs of converting a couple of my holdings into certificated form last time there was a bit of a scare. Trouble is it can work against you as well sometimes. Within a week or so my PGD Patagonia gold had an 'iffy' announcement and I sold most of them almost immediately and thank goodness I did as it went from about 50p to about 1p or something. I have bought back since at about the current price but I suppose that's the way it goes. In conclusion though I don't blame you, especially if you have large sums in the share. | hazl
14/1/2017 11:59 | Saw - Great picture. - When I look at it, one word comes to mind - 'Stamina' - I wish I had some of it. :-) On another note and just a topic for weekend discussion: All of the shares I own are nominee holdings with TD Direct investing. (TDI) TDI are selling out to Interactive Investor, an unknown quantity as far as I'm concerned. Because of this, I've decided to arrange for my nominee-holdings in Centamin to be converted into certificated form. It was quite easy to do, I just rang TDI and they are making the arrangements. It'll take approx. 10 working days to complete and there will be no charge for the service. The downside is that when I come to sell, there will be a charge of £102.50 as opposed to £12.50 for nominee. In going through the exercise, it made me realise that the value of my Centamin holdings amounted to many multiples of the compensation-ceiling that would apply in the event of the broker going bust. - Is it possible for the broker to go bust? - Well, I think we're entering a scary period in political/economic history and therefore I don't rule out the possibility. Question - I wonder how many of you have value sitting in nominee holdings that exceeds the compensation limit. - Just a thought. - Rebs | rebess4

13/1/2017 10:29 | Good morning Saw - Can I not be Charlie Chan? - You can be son number one and Yorgi a number two! - a role he's well suited to. - :-) | rebess4
13/1/2017 08:45 | Raid Centamin’s cash machine on the cheap Since the beginning of August, gold has fallen by around $50 (£38) an ounce and back to where it was immediately after the price-spiking Brexit vote. Unsurprisingly, that retracement has knocked the wind out of the sails of many gold miners, some of which had re-rated sharply this year and were sitting on lofty valuations. In the case of Egypt-focused Centamin (CEY), the sell-off looks overdone. That's because the FTSE 250 constituent has a growing cash pile, excellent free cash generation and increasing production, and yet its shares are priced at just eight times next year's forecast earnings. | cranachjnr
12/1/2017 21:47 | jfishy, think of it like Wing Chun. You are Bruce Lee (the student) Rebs is Yip Man(the Grandmaster) Mr Til definitely the Jackie Chan :-) JuJu the Shaolin Monk, always looking to the spirits for guidance :-) This bb is The Way of the Dragon :-) | sawadee3

12/1/2017 17:15 | Well thank you for the kind words Saw. However, it should be noted that Rebs is capable of crunching numbers AND reciting poetry - I clearly have a way to go! | jfishy55
12/1/2017 14:35 | Excellent work jfishy, that is poetry in itself :-) Many thanks for sharing :-) | sawadee3
12/1/2017 13:36 | Thanks Luckyvince :-) GARYCOOK, the calculation for the dividend above is for the *final* dividend so you need to add in the interim to get the yield. I estimate a final of 4p plus the 2p interim = 6p which gives a yield of 3.94%. It is interesting that this will present a 100% increase in yield since last year. However, I do not expect the yield to continue rising at that rate! Although the yield may be less than PAF & HGM, there are many other variables that should be considered. E.g. Gold in the ground, life of mine, Burkina Faso, court case, diesel subsidy etc. | jfishy55
12/1/2017 13:17 | A Dividend of 3.6p,over gives a yield of 2.35%,on a share price of 1.5240.Compare that with yields at HGM 6%,and PAF 5.5%. | garycook
12/1/2017 12:41 | Much respect to you jf. That's a fine attempt at a difficult calculation. | luckyvince |
