Aviva share price in 2015 of roughly 5.50 a share on earnings just shy of 1.2 billion earnings in 2019 3 times that of 3.9billion if the same valuation held from 2015 the shares should be roughly 18 pounds each - even at 2.37 no one seems interested - notwithstanding the spineless board if these aren’t cheap ——- !!!

Another insurer LV offering refunds if 25-50 pounds back to customers. Hope AVIVA don't give refund. Better to give discount on renewal.

Many thanks for that recap. I could have sworn that someone on here said there was an announcement coming on 5/5/20. Must be mistaken.

The psychology of the investor is timeless and to argue otherwise is futile. That's why technicals are important.

The risk of a sell off in the market is real, but absolutely nothing to do with the fantasy of chart shapes. Whilst J Doyne Farmer may have compared charting to astrology, I think it may - perhaps - be better compared to the Rorschach inkblot test.

The announcement about the withdrawn dividend said... 'It remains too early to quantify the impact of COVID-19 on claims expenses in our life and general insurance businesses, and the potential effect of capital markets and economic trends on our results. Given the change in the economic outlook, we are reviewing all material discretionary and project expenditure. We intend to provide an operational update for investors in the second half of May.'

Is someone able to clarify for following please?

1) When is Aviva due to release their next announcement? I heard it mentioned here that it might be the 5th of May but don't know where that date came from.

2) What are we expecting to be included in the announcement? Is it an update on their COVID-19 position, and a financial statement?

Sorry if this has already been covered.

only that i think its going to be a long road. easy upside once CV subsides and they restart divi. but without some decent mgmt outcomes on strategic side it will be a long road back to north of £4 and beyond and there will probably be other things to allocate to

Like I said at the weekend, and it wasn't very popular, the chart of this and many others is a pennant formation which almost always breaks to the downside. This will re-test the lows in the coming weeks as part of a general market sell off after the fantasy bear market rally of April. Fill your boots but not until £2.

Thanks cjac39. When you stated "but not sure I’ll wait till 4+", did you mean that if you manage to average down below 300p, you wouldn't wait till 400p to sell? Or did you mean something else? Sorry for the basic question, just want to be sure I understood.

Could Pool Re £6.6 Billion reserve money be used to pay Business Interruption claims? Certainly an option the insurance industry has.

I do not think the Allianz statement has wider implications. Firstly, Allianz are always conservative in their market management and it is notable that they have said they cannot assume they will meet the previous guidance - not that they will definitely miss it, or miss it by a material amount. Secondly, Allianz has some considerations not as relevant elsewhere, not least the impact on PIMCO. Not many insurers have the worlds largest bond house and a manager of $2 trillion in assets. And whilst some of that portfolio may benefit, other parts will not (obviously equities, but also mortgage backed bonds for example). And thirdly, Allianz has to look across over 70 national subsidiary operations (unlike the handful for Aviva). With that number it is really difficult to be sure both that all exposures have been identified and that there are no cases of national management covering up local dirt (I know that occurred in the past at Firemans Fund - the Allianz US general insurer). This problem also involves Allianz Global Risks which covers big multinational risks like the big oilers. Each of those risks will be bespoke and need looking at on its own merits, unlike most risks confined to one country where standard wordings will usually rule.

Welcome neophytos - it’s for me three themes in one: 1) obviously sotp is something like 2x the sp, 2) there is a near term catalyst which is turning divi back on , and 3) have they actually got the gumption to do anything interesting in the new mispriced world of opportunity and optimise their allocated capital rather than just pursue more of the same but slightly better. 1+2 will play out. 3 I’m not so sure. I’m averaging down to get sub 300 but not sure I’ll wait till 4+
