This is disastrous. In times of crises, leadership is required to steady the ship. There's no sign of that here though. The silence is deafening!

Whipsawing of the market is to be expected as there are plausible views either way to armageddon or an expidited solution.
After a rise there will be profit takers (traders) and those looking to exit on a bounce.
Slowly, slowly catchee monkey.

I have been out of Aviva for some time. With my assessment of the economic situation worsening there could be the risk of people withdrawing funds from the likes of Aviva.
What are views - and apologies if I have not followed all the posts which may have asked this question.

Neophytos, agree some very well informed posters here. Very grateful to them. Having backed off investing due to COVID liabilities, I've now taken the 'plunge' as can see they shouldn't be a massive issue. Equally hope they might reinstall the divi later in the year.

Terrible comms from the company.

Gives the impression of a rudderless ship.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum...
Have a substantial holding of AV. and I am an ex-Aviva employee of circa 9 years of service (until fairly recently). My holding is a combination of privately bought shares, and shares purchased and accumulated over the years via Aviva's employee share incentive schemes. I was holding at an average of 487p (and paper loss) for some time, but took the recent opportunity to average down, and my break-even price is now 341p. I've only ever dabbled in trading shares here and there over the years, so am pretty much uninformed as a 'trader'. I guess I will be holding AV. for the longer term recovery and potential future divs in the meantime, and really hope they do issue a special div in Q4. Just wanted to intro myself and say hi to all here. I have been reading your posts for a number of weeks now before deciding to sign up to be able to post. I have found all your posts to be very informative and engaging. Thank you to all who have been contributing to the discussion recently.

Cjac39 , thanks for your extremely informative posts.

I would vote you onto the Aviva board if I could.

I am stunned that you can get such access and yet the board still do not issue any independent clarification in the way that other companies have done.

Either they have some really difficult to understand reasons for not doing so (which you may understand ) or they are living in some kind of pre internet , pre regulated seventies parallel world. Either way this situation cannot continue too long before regulators take notice or they trip up and have to issue a very humiliating runs.

In the meantime I think the main effect is that the share price stays depressed due to the uncertainty and poor reputation of the management , which ironically may not be correct .

It’s all so unnecessary and seemingly easy to fix.

In the meantime thanks to your clarifications (and wb’s) I am a buyer

Yes, no comment by board encourages negative comments by media/investors and that in effect results in negative share price

I’m baffled by this seemingly very low SP

great input and I only have issue with one statement. They should be in an excellent position to estimate losses (and benefits!) on the general side by now. They do not have to wait for the losses to come in (which will take much longer); a review of their exposure would have been done immediately and any semi-competent GI actuary would provide the board with a range of outcome. Similarly, I cannot see that they would not have decent estimates of effects on other areas including the likes of annuities and investments.

My suspicion is that they may feel it is difficult to comment on losses without making comment on a range of other effects which will offset any losses due to coronavirus.

They should be making full disclosure along the lines of the Next statement yesterday, with worst case and best estimate scenarios, and the assumptions on which these are based. Exact knowledge is not required.

buywell introduced you guys to African Swine Fever, and explained why circa $ 3 Trillion would be the cost the world would have to pay

A Global game changer in itself , but now eclipsed by Covid-19 which buywell has $84 Trillion pencilled in for now.

Is African Swine Fever a dead duck story ?

Nope it ain't , now hitting India and Poland as it spreads towards westen europe and then America and Canada.

Also now in PNG , so Australia also soon to get hit

African swine fever spreads rapidly in PNG
Xinhua-23 Apr 2020
SYDNEY, April 24 (Xinhua) -- African Swine Fever (ASF) has spread rapidly throughout Papua New Guinea (PNG)

25% of the World pigs now have been culled because of this disease.

I’m optimistic Aviva will continue to rise and should there be an announcement that’s reasonably positive then we may be comfortably in the £3-£4 range.
Still think they stopped dividends unnecessarily
