Last week TW said DW sent him an e-mail which asked him to pass on an offer to SC for lunch to thank him for giving him the opportunity to buy shares at a reduced price.

As expected SC still keeping up the "short" tip.

Can I ask how GTE is doing for you Simon ? Is AVN making up for your losses there ?

Hello everybody,

I just got back from Barbados half an hour ago only to see that another director seeks to do his dough. Gluttons for punishment, the lot of them.

It is true that whilst away I sploshed £60,000 on footie BUT I made more than that shorting AVN.

So it's not all bad.

Good Morning Everyone so we have the FD buying as well :-)

Chrissey, I agree with Colva that it is SC aka EK posting here and as Volvo comments is showing signs of desperation.

I'm sure he will be continuing to try and keep AVN falling to try and recover his losses that Newcastle and Man Utd have cost him.

My advice don't follow his football tips any more than his AVN short :-)

I doubt if he has made as much as the directors when they sold either.

Watching for the end of month caledonian share of Avanti to see if that has changed

So now after reflection, the FD steps into the breach and buys 50k worth yesterday, YES JUST YESTERDAY.

Basically the resident shorter is in the west indies, drinking rum like theres no tomorrow.

He has become a loose cannon with a refined habit of calling things so wrong of late.

He is showing all the signs of desperation. Really, and thats from the people that know him.

Newcastle and now Man U, hes done his doh this week alright. Expensive holiday. Not going well at all.

I think we can safely say that the Simon Cawkwell that has been posting here is Simon Cawkwell aka Evil Knievil - he has posted on advfn in the past and TW mentioned in his rebuttal that SC had posted the dodgy research on a BB.

Having read ( and enjoyed )EK,s blogs over the years i have to say that his argument here up to now has been weak - after his first post i would have expected a further attack on AVN,s fundarmentals but all we,v had is that he continues to bet that Avanti are in trouble " share price wise " .

He may yet pull a rabbit out of the hat but so far all i see is an opportunity to top up.

EDIT.
Simon - when will EK be back on t1ps ?

yorgi, I just don't think that the real SC would enter into bb banter.

I might be wrong, it just doesn't smack of his MO.

good luck wednesday all!

Melody,

I would have thought AVN presented itself as an ideal stock to short as it rose on the good news of the launch at the end of last year and after that it was highly likely that some would take profits and hence the initial drop.

We also at that time had an influx here of posters not seen before who suddenly appeared sowing seeds of doubt about AVN's technology and how their satellites would become obsolete by new technology.

They denied they were working together but it looked very much like they were.

I don't speculate, short term movements dont bother me - I'm also not a sophisticated enough investor to short stocks. The recent drops just made me again check my decisions. I'm happy tripling my holding here recently. I'm down in everything in my portfolio recently - but not worried.

Hmmm - the more important question is why the hedge fund have selected AVN to short. After all you would expect that they would have done their due diligence. The fact that SC has pumped out erroneous info and used that as the basis on which to short is something that just added fuel to the fire.

I think that I would be tempted to short a company if someone from a large hedge fund advised me to do the same after saying that they were in the process of spending many millions shorting that company in the knowledge that the informant would perhaps be kind enough to let me know when they intended covering their short.

Gekks,

The last information we have on that is from the 14th Feb RNS, March :

"During the period HYLAS 1 was successfully launched. The satellite has now substantially completed its testing and is in excellent condition. The satellite reached geostationary orbit very efficiently and as a result HYLAS 1 is expected to achieve longer useful life than planned. Following completion of certain confidential pre-service commercial missions, Avanti expects to declare In Orbit Acceptance and begin regular commercial operations in March, at this point Avanti will advise the market on the amount of life extension."

Edit

So I guess you could say any time, my gut feeling is it will sooner rather than later.
