50k worth.

Thats 550k pounds worth in three days amongst the directors.

Certainly confidence, among what is relatively modestly wealthy group of people.

TB and TW have been tipping AVN strongly for ages,, I eventually bought on TB's say so at around 450p.TB has also recently won acclaim for his tips and is not at all worried at the present share price .Neither am I as I believe that as a small high tech nonprofit making (as yet) company they are vulnerable to bear raids and disinformation (scare tactics)
There seem to be four broker buys notes now , some recent and one broker sell note, I haven't seen any replies from Investec to the allegations that their analysis is wrong, why? because imo they are wrong and have existing shorts.
The directors have now bought quite a substantial sum at the present bargain price £400,000.00 of them, note the decimal place
You have to ask yourselves, after reading and understanding all the analysis on AVN would you short sell AVN?

Best check out the biggest risers over the last 2 years, that are up on expectation and not profit.

PDX and AVN fit that. PI's should check their portfolio, while some may have risen significantly it seems these guys will pick them off and short them.

My question is did TB of RHPS get wind of this. The timing of his considerable efforts to encourage PI's to buy is suspect. Had they done so they would have suffered.

All the rest of your post was fine Yorgi.
Just glad I could add a tiny bit of info . . . or Byte of info . . . oh dear, there we go again!

Doesn't Avanti mean: to go ahead, in Italian?
I wish it would, rapidamente.

Buona notte tutti,

John

Growth Fund Newsletter Issue 33 - March 2011

Beware the Ides of March (or not)

The world remains a troubled place. But as we indicated in our last newsletter that does not alter our strategy. Indeed one is reminded of the comment from the 18th century Baron Rothschild who advised his clients to buy shares during some particular revolution. Surely, the client asked, you should not buy because of there is blood flowing on the streets. The baron said you buy, buy and buy more exactly because there is blood flowing on the streets. That is to say because everyone discounts the worst you get to pay bargain prices. As it happens we do not think that the market as a whole offers stunning value but there is certainly enough to worry about to throw up a few bargains.

As such we stand by our world view. Events in the Middle East could go any way. But we certainly think it prudent to have a decent oil weighting. As such we continue to hold a lot of Northern Petroleum, Niche and Chalkwell. The inflationary genie is well and truly out of the bottle and so we continue to have a material gold and silver weighting via Ascot Mining, Athol Gold (more bought) and Woodburne Square Ag (silver). We will see real value in our resources plays but we see almost as much value in small caps outside the resources world.

Small and microcaps have enjoyed a rally in recent months but there is still real value and as such in recent weeks we have added to our holdings of: Avisen, Avanti Communications, Athol Gold, Intandem, ILX, Rethink, Interquest, VSA Capital, Nexus, Blavod, Mirada and Access Intelligence. In the case of Avanti that is a special situation - a bear raid based on someone getting facts and decimal places wrong. We bought more and were encouraged that the board also bought amounts which were truly significant relative to their salaries and net wealth. In the case of our other purchases these were simply opportunistic value investments.

Oh dear....:-(

Yes, it appears I missed some 000's

I will have to look back and correct that post, thanks John.

Yes I remember those days long ago leaning about bits, bytes and nibbles as you say one couldn't have made it up. Was the rest of the way I explained the difference between Hertz and Bytes clear in your mind John ?

Hope that Byte was good mine was :-)

Thanks John

Hi Yorgi,
I've just been reading the posts from yesterday and today, and noticed your reply about GHz was a little bit out . . . on the low side.
Re Post No. 3713

A Giga anything, is a 1,000 million. So a GHz is 1,000,000,000 Hz
Which is the same as a thousand MegaHertz.

Likewise a GigaByte is 1,000 million Bytes.

Years ago at college, we learnt that a Byte was 8 Bits of info.
And get this, a 'Nibble' . . . . . you couldn't make it up . . . is Half a Byte!!! Honest.

That all reminds me, I must go and have a Byte right now, as my wife has just done some lovely grub.

All the best,
John W

Thanks Yorgi and Volvo. My reason for trying to ascertain the point at which the selling began is also due to wishing to know the shares weaknesses too as presumably these fears will have to be dismissed were the share price to recover.

My laptop reset due to an automatic update and I have just lost all my notes. Think I will only begin at post 3000 this time!

Snickerdog, yes it has been most interesting that TW was very quick to answer what SC had posted and very strongly pulling his argument to pieces. I don't know when he started shorting but I believe the campaign to pull AVN started very soon after the launch. I base this on the fact that shortly after launch the BB had an influx of new posters working together trying to put an argument up that AVN's technology was likely to fail with new technologies making theirs redundant in effect. I have no idea when SC started shorting so I won't speculate.

I don't know who the hedge fund is that is shorting, but I suspect some of the other guys here have thoughts on that.

I have made contact with the company recently.

Thanks Yorgi. SC and TW are pretty close I believe so funny that they are not working in tandem. However, each must stick to his convictions I suppose! I wonder when EK began to sell as well? Prior to his annoucement or simultaneously?

I am just going through the RNS's and have copied various links to have a read of later. Will post them all for you to put in the header.

Who is the Hedge fund who was supposedly shorting?

Are there any on here who have direct contact with the company?
