15/12/2016 08:26 | Good time to be buying insurers chaps :-) | sawadee3
12/12/2016 13:39 | chancer - try them on twitter. any negative feedback in the public domain ought to get their attention. | speedsgh
09/12/2016 12:12 | Stockwatch: Strong income growth on the cheap - | speedsgh
09/12/2016 11:27 | I sold some av. yesterday as these runs always seem to have a 15-20p+ pull back, still have half and similarly with standard life. Just a little reshuffle. | uppompeii
09/12/2016 09:43 | It seems to me that the price doesnt reflect the relative safety of the dividend payment and the fact that it is cumulative. I suppose this has to be balanced with the fact that if Aviva went bust then both the preference and ordinary shares would be worthless. | rl34870
08/12/2016 14:45 | That's a fair point edmund. If I were looking beyond the yield that would have had some bearing, but they are to balance out a Sipp that is a little top heavy in growth shares. That will be my excuse when I get it wrong... | uppompeii
08/12/2016 13:00 | Well, thanks for the comments about the pref shares. There is a good article here about them. Phil Oakley is a reliable chap I think: moneyweek.com/seekin My concern would be interest rate rises hitting the price. So I am not tempted at the moment. | edmundshaw
08/12/2016 11:07 | Well done- they are certainly cheap relative to Aviva ordinary shares and I think the market makers read my post as the price rose today! | rl34870
08/12/2016 10:29 | I think you've answered it with your last comment, I keep looking and thinking should I get some. *edit - just bought some av.b, seeing someone else mention them was enough to prompt me! | uppompeii
07/12/2016 13:24 | Can anyone tell me why the preference shares are so cheap ? Seems like a bargain to me with a 6.2% yield and covered 200 times plus by profits. I know that prices are governed by inflation / interest rate outlook but likely that interestate rates will sTaylor rock bottom for next few years with so much debt around. | rl34870
29/11/2016 14:35 | I think AV are trying to dump the broker channel and move everyone onto Direct. That way they can selectively fix the more or less crooked price comparison sites and the mug punter wont know the difference. | chairman20
28/11/2016 14:50 | Well now I can see why the high premium Phil, Aviva obviously have a good Gloucester petrolhead risk assessment algorithm :-) Seriously, your personal experience is not very objective evidence. It is like me not investing in, say, Morrisons just because I wouldn't set foot in one unless it was the only food shop within 50 miles. Although, to undermine my own argument, I probably wouldn't... | edmundshaw
28/11/2016 11:13 | Small adjustment this morning; remain net long Aviva. Boring may be good at the moment? | alphorn
26/11/2016 20:57 | Good. Obviously you don't live in Gloucester or drive a V8. | philo124
26/11/2016 18:16 | Well my last quote from Aviva was competitive out of 3 quotes. My existing insurer almost matched it (within a couple of quid) so I stayed with them for simplicity. But I don't think the individual experience of either of us tells us much to be honest; rather a narrow statistical sample... I looked at reviews of different insurers not so long ago. The truth seems that the majority of reviews were by people feeling ripped off for price in the case of pretty much every insurer, and wanted to make a noise, or people giving personal experiences of settlements which varied widely from glowing to furious, and weren't much use except for a few small insurers which looked a bit dodgy, or in marginal cases of claim legitimacy (e.g. does your house insurance cover you if a plane falls in it? or part of a plane?). | edmundshaw
26/11/2016 17:24 | Through my broker. | philo124
26/11/2016 12:57 | Every insurer tries to up the premium to take advantage of the lazier/busier/naiver customers. Normally they cave in pretty fast if you ask for a better deal though, that was a bit surprising. How did you ask? | edmundshaw
25/11/2016 10:27 | Just dumped Aviva motor policy after they tried on a 10% increase in premium with a £700 excess. They wouldn't budge so renewed with someone else at lower cost than last year and £450 Excess. As for Home Insurance, forget it if you live in Gloucestershire, Aviva assume that all resident's homes flood. Will be dumping their shares. | philo124
23/11/2016 14:37 | Perhaps just increase the excesses? Yes, it is just another tax, but may encourage a small number to "self-insure" (ie just take the risk) a bit more. | edmundshaw
23/11/2016 14:16 | A small nip from the increase in insurance premium tax although it will be paid by the insured person. | alphorn |
