Anyone holding for results tomorrow

Yes - BB was essentially fraudulent as they ignore the less favourable clinical results. I went to a talk by Chris Evans (the entrepreneur not the DJ!) whilst at uni and he inspired me to follow the sector. FWIW he was an excellent speaker and charismatic person after the event. I didn't have BB - I did have Chiroscience which did very well, but then I picked a whole series of duds - Regen/Ark/Ardana/Phytopharm/Oxford Biomedica/Scotia/Xenova and others. Not sure what my total losses were but fortunately it was in the days before I was relatively well off. I still hold some of them that I could write off against tax should I ever have to pay CGT - but this is unlikely as almost all my holdings are in ISAs or Sipps.

I wouldn't touch a bio now - all run by CEOs with EGOs the size of planets and most end in failure. Some exceptions of course, GWP/SKP seem to have done well recently, but I don't have them.

Yes do you remember British Biotech many years ago?...that was a disaster for me!!...

I think it takes the emotion out of it. I am a biochemist of sorts, and I used to invest in biotechs which was very interesting and but was a financial disaster. With the funds I seem them as a buy and hold infinitum sort of investment. Perhaps that is equally bad. Now my buys are only from the dividends I have received. I am also partial to the odd SB - but that is strictly limited to a few hundred quid at most. That is the total risk, not the amount per point.

Do you really wanna give your money to those fundies?

I have done that too. Roughly 75% of my meagre wealth is in trackers/cash/funds, only 25% is in directly held shares, of which this makes up about 15. Feels significant but isn't really. I came to the decision that there are people who are better than me at investing, and it's les hassle. Having said that some of the funds haven't exactly shone either.

Don't remind me Dr. I did well purely down to buying in the 180's after the crash and having a few lucky guesses on spread bets. Got caught out on that divi cut though like many and the 20% fall in the aftermath. I still hold a few too many in my sipp and isa but not the huge percentages of yore...happy to let others do the work in funds these days and I just hold a few individual shares like this one now, mostly from profit share/saye schemes.I sleep better and don't check everyday. Bracke can do that for me....

Yes, when this BB was thriving and we were all trying to guess whether Moss was going to raise the dividend to some unbelievable level to cover up his huge pay rise and the general underperformance. Or to find out who he was shagging in the boardroom. But as my needs have changed I prefer the steadier leadership that Wilson has bought.

Generally under Wilson AV have underpromised and over delivered. I have learned to look forward to results day rather than to fear it when we had the previous CEO

Yes hopefully an underperformance and a downturn in the markets to pull them down.

However I do have a sneaky suspicion they maybe quite good.

I disagree. Job cuts perhaps were unfairly blamed on brexit when it's more about people going online and not using branches. However the so dropped as the ceo said the outlook was uncertain, at least in part to the vote.

For LLOY yesterday read political expediency- they cannot make a further
3,000 job cuts and then talk up prospects.

BREXIT was used as a very handy excuse to drive further efficiency gains.

Lloyds is an interesting one, shares have dropped a lot after the vote presumable due to the uncertain outlook, then they produce good number but drop more as they say the outlook is uncertain. Hit twice by the same stick. Chance of that here too. Barclays have given a more optomistic statement this morning, it will be interesting to see what happens there.

I wonder if Aviva will get the Lloyds treatment with the results? Good numbers and poor outlook with the shares tumbling???

Good news for housebuilding today from both VP. and Taylor Wimpey. Neither reported signs of a slowdown except briefly after the Brexit vote.

Good news for housebuilding and therefore for the Aviva property funds.

Always have stop losses on my trades.

From memory it's around 4.09. It was set on an multiple of an ATR from a 21Ema.
