09/3/2006 12:29 | Some hefty buys today. Good news on the horizon? | doomed_economy
02/3/2006 00:51 | I get the feeling that this one should be due a bit of a re rating soon. Its been daudling along for far too long now, & needs to be remembered by the market again. Perhaps there'll be some sudden activity shortly before the results are announced? | studshave
26/1/2006 17:06 | I think it's worth waiting. The Group has generated some quite good returns in the last 3 years, despite doing nothing with the cash. They do seem to be taking some positive action with their Far East seedcorn (should be rice!) investments. I would define the management as cautious wheeler/dealers; they got caught out in the dotcom boom when the shares went over 200p. Fortunately they still had the cash mountain, so the fall in the value of their investments wasn't catastrophic. Look at the latest balance sheet, where out of £36m of shareholders funds, £24m is in cash and £11m in investments. The problem for many investors is that the profit each year will depend on realisations and is bound to go up and down; management is concentrating on asset value per share. Make a note to go to the AGM in Hong Kong later in the year. | handybe
26/1/2006 08:32 | I wondered why such a big discount. I bought some a week or so ago, but have to say the overall performance is somewhat underwhelming. I guess a 60% holding chairman with no ambition explains why. | studshave
24/1/2006 20:53 | Yes, I'm a long-term holder. They have an entrepreneurial spirit in there but they're going to continue with an investment trust rating and discount to assets unless they put the enormous cash mountain to good use. It all depends whether the Chairman wants to sit on his 60% or thereabouts and have a good life or whether he's going to get off his backside and deliver some goodies for us outside shareholders. At worst, he could decide to buy out the wingeing minority at a small discount to nav - which is comfortably above the current share price. Patience is needed because we can't vote him out of office. | handybe
