moving down 0.5p is not the most dramatic move I've ever seen.

Looking at the price graph since Feb 03, average uptrend of ARL has been about 1p per month. 12p on 35p per year is just over 30%, which is probably somewhat less than the IRR that ARL expects from its investments - so potentially sustainable ?

in 3 days,we've made back the losses of the last 2 months.

the stock is up from 28-31 to 33-36 (up 17.5%),lifting the market cap of ARL by £3.25 mln on turnover of about 210k (about £65,000).

its a funny old game.

An examination of todays trades shows just how thin the market is mms had to raise the bid significantly to fill a £10,000 order, the punter paid 36p. possibly for T25, lets hope he knows something. Of course ARL is very boring no one ever writes it up, but it is a great low risk play, and if it moves to over 40p peeps will start to notice.

both mm's are up in 10k shares, and yet they delay reporting a 9k trade by 2 hours.
ridiculous.

Cemtron (100% owned by ARL) would seem a reasonable choice (to float via the "cash-shell" Greenchip).

Their business is in the Contract Electronic Manufacturing industry and in the last reported full year (to 31 March 2003) they made a net profit after tax of over £300k ! In fact operating profit was £393k on turnover of £9.3M which isn't bad for a company in the electronic manufacturing industry during 2002/03.

I agree that this is one unlisted investment that is certainly worth more than zero!

good point ZOG.
they have clearly done it for a reason, which obviously doesn't involve the fundamental prospects of greenchip!
I think you've found the reason above, but which one of their 4 unlisted investments will be first ?

given that they own 100% of Cemtron,I would guess that that is their plan.

In my calculations of ARLs nav,I value their unlisted holdings at zero, which is clearly wrong, but despite that,ARL is still trading on a substantial discount to nav.

If they could realise some value from cemtron, oxford bio, celoxica or plasmanet, then ARLs shares would be rerated strongly, imo.

Hmmm, kind of interesting that ARL have bought more shares in Greenchip Investments (which is now a cash shell with an AIM listing) - they have increased their stake to 29.97% (if they exceed 30% they would be obliged to bid for the rest). I wonder if they plan to use Greenchip as a way of listing one of their investee companies at some stage?

I agree Mr Barham clearly has his eye on another pair of white shoes. It looks like this is heading up. The only downside is that a lot of investors bought at 40p in the first fundraising rights issue and at 175p in the following fundraising! If the price heads to 40p some investors original may call it quits! I am however still bullish on this stock!

Actually they have thought long and hard about this, and have gone to considerable trouble to make it legally possible.

LOL!

I would imagine they thought long and hard before wading into the market for this purchase of only £7500.

Conclusion:It is sending a signal to holders of the stock. We have started buying our shares back,so you will be ill-advised to sell now.

As I understand it,these shares may have been bought for cancellation, and they may also be sold back into the market later if the company wishes ?

If I am correct, what exactly is the point of this exercise ?

For Obelix

Suggest you get on to Google Search Engine and type "Treasury Shares" and read
"Publications" the definition is far too long to post on this site. Will explain all you want to know, more flexible than just purchasing shares for cancellation.Although the amount is very small to me this is a significant move and further reinforces the value of this Company and we are likely to see more purchases.

Treasury share transactions are very common in the USA and this facility has been available to companies there for decades. Hope this helps.

Can only be a good sign. Nick Barham has every interest in getting the price up.

This movment of director shares happened in november as well.
Instead of selling shares to each other, perhaps the directors would be better served in looking for investment opportunites that might stop their share price from developing rigor mortis.

I noticed a 6.5% rise in ENU!

It marks ARL's nav a touch higher when working out mark-to market valuations,(xko was also up),but seeing as ARL will never sell their ENU's in the market, its pretty academic, imo.
