24/11/2003 19:28 | that sale of 150,000 by Nick Barham to Mr Hill and the rest of the staff is an odd one. no trade was posted on 21st Nov,so it was just an internal transfer. As such,I wonder why it was announced.I can only assume it is a regulatory requirement. realising the gain on ECK serves 2 purposes imho. 1)it crystalises a gain which had a book value in the accounts of 9p ? 2)by continuing to increase the bottom line,ARL increases the chances of being allowed to buy back its own shares,as I believe you must be a 'profitable' company in order to be able to do this. either way,I believe it is good news all round. | sugarbeast
24/11/2003 18:10 | there you go what will this mean for the shareprice now boys and girls? where is everyone? | tom2468
24/11/2003 08:09 | can people not see the value here need to take a look | tom2468
24/11/2003 01:33 | Sitting on the sidelines and warming the bench is never any fun. It seems that after months of uncertainties, recently released data shows that investors are starting to get back into the game. This indicates that investors are becoming more optimistic about the market's performance in the next few months. 23/11/2003 23:30 | as you can see above,I believe that is the case too. if true, the discount to nav of ARL should narrow,as more and more of a percentage of their assets will be in cash. | sugarbeast
23/11/2003 21:05 | just wait and see sugarbeast | tom2468
23/11/2003 20:46 | where did you just hear it tom ? | sugarbeast
21/11/2003 19:18 | thats it there out of eck! just heard it here first we are on our way to 50p | tom2468
21/11/2003 16:11 | if it is ARL who have liquidated their eck holding, that'll be about £2.5 mln of cash realised, against a book value of close to £1 mln. still, just speculation at the moment. | sugarbeast
21/11/2003 15:27 | looks like 7 mln ECK were crossed at 17p,which represents almost exactly half of ARL's holding. given that they sold 15 mln ECK earlier this year at a much lower price,it makes sense to me. I suspect we'll find out within 2/3 days. | sugarbeast
21/11/2003 15:21 | I wonder if ARL are dumping their ECK today ? | sugarbeast
21/11/2003 13:19 | baggy you're right.my nav did not include any of the unlisted holdings. | sugarbeast
20/11/2003 12:52 | this thing moves on every trade I love it | tom2468
20/11/2003 08:26 | just bought more and the price goes pop | tom2468
19/11/2003 17:59 | They might if they want to use paper for future deals. | capt bligh
19/11/2003 17:29 | Reckon the "marked to market" NAV of ARL is probably already somewhat north of 50p, depending on the discount rate that one applies to future valuations of unlisted holdings. But doubt if ARL will buy in shares above 35-40p. | baggywrinkle
19/11/2003 15:02 | its likely that if they shot up too far,arl wouldn't bother buying them back. anything less than a 15% discount to net nav makes it a marginal exercise anyway. only the company knows what current nav is;somewhere between 42 and 50p I suspect. illiquidity can certainly work for and against you! | sugarbeast
19/11/2003 14:46 | I think this illiquidity, irritating for those of us fully invested, is important, when the company get the go-ahead to buy back shares, they are so thinly held, practically no float, they should motor, and on relatively small outlay by ARL too. | capt bligh
19/11/2003 14:23 | Still look well undervalued to me. Time to buy is on weakness imo. Trying to buy these in anything over 7.5K on firm days sees the price gallop away from you. CR | cockneyrebel
19/11/2003 14:01 | a net sale of about 25,000 over the last 3 days has brought us down 5% today. it implies to me that the 2 mm's are keeping a very tight book in ARL,and further sales will have an equally dramatic effect;naturally, the reverse is true too. At the moment, the markets look weak to me,and I have no wish to buy anymore ARL for the timebeing. | sugarbeast
19/11/2003 11:33 | Saw this, but couldn't find the cash paid nor what ARL paid. So thanks. Good omen that they are using it as a case study. ARL seem to like stakes around 10% - big enough to give big profit if it goes well, small enough that other companies take bigger risks. | baggywrinkle
19/11/2003 10:53 | Have a look at this inflexion were the lead investors in the recent 25 m mbo of ster and have a majority stake. Arl put in 2.3 thus their stake 9%+ | capt bligh
15/11/2003 21:18 | XKO Results on Monday. CR | cockneyrebel
14/11/2003 17:47 | its a buy alright | tom2468
