The Company has now spent about 60k moving its price from mid twenties to mid thirties. I think the next 10p gain will cost them less. I forecast a gentle rise to mid 50s by June, Dull but profitable.

Paper is one thing, but the only way NB will ever realise his holding in ARL is if he winds up the company.

Well its looking much stronger now, we have held on to the 33-35p for a while and tiny purchase has just moved them further. Amazing Mr. Barham could make himself self several million squid better off on paper, by spending a few K of ARls war chest... What will happen next.

Seems very quiet since his rather strange unsubstantiated claim which turned out to be wrong. Any chance of an explanation??

The shorter the string, the fewer the sellers, the firmer the launch pad?

the string on the yo-yo must be very short!

do you think ARL are hoping to bore holders into submission ?!

Well they have now bought back 2.5% of the company. That leaves 30.5% that they can buy under their mandate./ Nick B owns 60% of remaining stock and Fid 5.1%. He can take it private this way very cheap. My guess is we shall see repeated yo-yoing of the price by the mms to sweat out parcels of stock for the B man to buy in tranches paying a hefty commission. Its tricky to capitalise here, but I guess buy on the dips and be patient... the last man out gets the best price.

Current major shareholders:

Fidelity: 3.281 mln
N Barham 38.785 mln (ceo)
C Niven 0.109 mln (dir)
C Hill 0.302 mln (dir)

total 42.477 mln

revised amount of total shares, less treasury stock:64.565 mln.

There are now 22 mln shares held by various unnamed individuals and companies.

The company recently won permission to buy back its own shares. How many shares is it looking to buy back ?

From an old set of results:
Some shareholders sought liquidity over the last year and the Company was able
to identify buyers for most of these shares. However, in view of the
substantial discount of the share price to net asset value - currently
standing at below cash value per share - at which the shares have been trading
in recent times, the Board intends to seek shareholder approval to buy back up
to 33% of the outstanding ordinary shares of the Company at any time during
the term of the authority should the Board deem this to be in the best
interests of the remaining shareholders. The Board and Management currently
hold some 53% of the ordinary issued share capital of the Company.

The implication,as far as I can tell,is that so long as ARL trades at a big discount to NAV (say 20% or more),it makes sense for the company to continue to buy back its own shares.

Now,if only we knew what current NAV was!

Looks to me like a very aggressive buyer. Large trades match up, purchases at 35p 1.33m
- sales between 32.5 and 34p 1.364m. Huge turn for the market maker on this volume. I doubt if it is Nicks handiwork, he purchased his 4.5m recently
at 26p - 2p below the market bid of 28p at the time. I think probably a new investor in a hurry. This represents 2pc of issued share capital - a Smaller or Aim
Company fund perhaps.

If ARL is buying back, we will see RNS shortly.
I suspect that some at least are deals set up between long term holders than can now get out at a reasonable price, and new/increasing holders who find it difficult to pick up reasonable lines of stock. i.e. not buy backs.

Not an expert at charts, but chart since admission to AIM looks good to me.
Once we clear 35p, there are not many sellers likely to come out imo. We could soon be in new high territory.

An event on one of ARL holdings, crystallising a gain, could bring the discount to NAV down towards normal levels.

biggest volume day for a long time today.

on the plus side, there is clearly a big sized buyer about;on the negative side, supply was plentiful.

seeing as the price rose on the day,it might imply that the buyers pockets are deeper.

if,as I suspect, its the company buying back some shares, then I believe a solid floor is in place for ARL,which is a huge factor for many potential buyers.

good to see market-makers margins are alive and kicking.

a 7.5% margin on crossing those 500k shares for no risk.

nice work if you can get it.

I think it is the company buying back some shares, imo.

tom

i have some funds, but i have enough of these.
it is a very dull, but comfortably underwritten share.
having said that,I am very intrigued by that big trade earlier.
the mm's between them do not have 500k on their books imo,so I will be watching to see where the supply comes from.
