SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Nov. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Shmoop, a
witty online learning company known for its award-winning test prep
and certified online courses, was one of only 7 educational
publishers to receive the prestigious approval for school
curriculum use under Texas'
Proclamation 2020.
Shmoop was reviewed alongside big-name textbook publishers
including Pearson and McGraw-Hill, but gained approval for the
single largest selection of courses of all reviewed publishers. As
an approved publisher, Shmoop's approved course materials cover
nine subjects, are aligned with Texas curriculum standards TEKS and ELPS, and
can be seamlessly added to any Texas school or district curriculum. An
astonishing 16 million monthly users tap into Shmoop's online
education resources each month, and that number is expected to
continue climbing.
Every year, the Texas State Board of Education releases a
Proclamation which calls for new curriculum materials. Proclamation
2020 was a call for High School English Language Arts (ELA) and
reading instructional materials. Courses were rigorously reviewed
by trained educators, with approvals announced in November 2019. Shmoop was approved for nine
courses, including:
- ELA 9: Introduction to Literature
- ELA 10: World Literature
- ELA 11: American Literature
- ELA 12: British Literature
- African American Poetry
- Greek and Roman Mythology
- Journalism
- Holocaust Literature
- Reading for College Success
These adopted materials will be available for classroom use
beginning in the 2020-2021 school year.
"With some of the largest districts in Texas, Utah,
and California actively using
Shmoop, this is a step in the right direction for education." said
Andy Rahden, CEO of Shmoop. "We are
excited to be one of the few digital publishers approved under
Proclamation 2020, and look forward to paving the way for adoption
of digital curriculum." Shmoop's courses take a fresh approach on
delivering content and course materials, using humor and
storytelling as a catalyst for student engagement, while following
a rigorous and personalized learning approach that drives
results.
