24/12/2019 09:10 | Meanwhile, the new materials field will soon be included for the first time in big science projects, making it one of the five fields on China's road map to becoming a major scientific power.Having already achieved preliminary progress in the development of graphene, the Chinese Government will now step up support for the application of the materialto achieve industrial scale through increased funding and the establishment of innovation alliances and specialised industry bases. Meanwhile, new materials standards are being formulated more quickly, and early phase research on strategic cutting-edge materials such as superconductors, nanomaterials, graphene and bio-based materials is gradually starting.Overseas investors can take advantage of policiesthat encourage foreign capital in new materials R&Dand commercialisation. By leveraging their strengthsin technology and capital, these businesses can workto develop markets for emerging materials through collaboration with local partners and research organisations on standards-setting and materials R&D. Chinese companies should bring the enormous potential demand of thelocal market into partnerships with leading international companies and research institutions, and, by sharing markets and returns from intellectual property rights, seek to establish an early-mover advantage in Chinaas well as overseas. | ![]() 1teepee
24/12/2019 09:09 | 2.2 New materials: Graphene and other cutting- edge materials emerging as the new darlings of industryNew materials are not only a strategic emerging industry, but they are also an important foundation to other strategic emerging industries such as environmental and new energy science, next generation information and communications technology (ICT), and advanced equipment manufacturing. In the 12th Five-Year Development Plan for National Strategic Emerging Industries,19 new materials, new energy and new energy vehicles are collectively listed as leading sectors of the national economy.Rapid development and technological advances are being made in the new materials industryThe Chinese Government has issued a series of documents that have stimulated rapid growth in this industry, including the 12th Five-Year Development Plan for the New Materials Industry,20 the Implementation Plan for the Projects to Upgrade Key Materials,21 and Made in China 2025.22 In 2013, the output value of the new materials industry was approximately RMB 1.25 trillion, with a YOY growth rate of roughly 25 percent (Graph 2-2).23 Since 2015, transforming and upgrading in the raw materials and key industrial materials sectors has been led by rapid growth in high- performance structural materials, fibres and special-use materials such as graphene. The industry does face challenges, however: there ismore scale than there is technology in the sector; capacity is high and profits are low; there is a wide diversity of products but very short value chains; the key materials market remains heavily reliant on imports; and indigenous innovation remains weak. These challenges partially stem from hasty efforts to attract and support industry in certain municipalities, which led to the construction of low-quality, redundant capacity. Other factors include poor coordination between the scientific community and industry around new materials, and a lack of specialised talent in the field | ![]() 1teepee

24/12/2019 08:24 | While it's quiet and half day on the stock market, just a point to remember going forward, especially if you have level 2 and it explains the value of level 2. The MM interview had some fab details in it which sated that market markers are sat there with about 100 stocks each. So yes there is a person looking at VRS and their many other stocks they cover reacting to the market. The guy also said they has caps on what they can do on stocks. Peel and Wins have 3-5 to times the cap capacity of the other MMs but only stock up when there is plenty of action EG typically SHOC and the rest just deal in 50k or less etc staying nimble. So they will just go on the bid pick off some PIs sells then flip them onto the offer to sell. Hence you get these jumps around. Sometime there are posts of "how the heel does a sell of 250 shares move a market cap by £1mill" Simple really the only MM on that price on the bid hits their limit and moves onto the offer. The bid drops and often they go under the offer price to offload what they bought. Once done they go back on the bid. More sells and it might take off others on the bid as they have enough stock. Exactly the same happens on the buy spike. One on the offer runs out and goes onto the Bid as the highest price. Some try to buy but the guys above that MM have no stock so they step out of the way and the price starts to climb on very little buying. The whole point of a market maker is to make a market. Not for you or I, but for them hoping to make money making small margins on each trade they do. If you are not making money, you will be judged against the performance of others and will have no job if you are not performing. | ![]() superg1

24/12/2019 08:00 | Just thought spilling. Market makers in xmas break mode books left bare so no issues with squaring them up. As a buyer you just pick off what holders sell as that is all that is in the market. Some need cash for xmas and other things etc. | ![]() superg1

23/12/2019 18:43 | Thanks willoic. One's short term memory really falters. I have now found the piece again. The Observer presented it as one of the ten most important changes in "the Decade that left us reeling" and that covered Sport, Transport, Food, Books etc. The graphene bit represented the biggest shock in Science. That puts an even more significant weight on the isolated, global importance of Versarien, and reflects the gigantic expectations of VRS shareholders and how they are correct, though their understanding has been, and remains on a different plane to that in the rest of the population. Bottom line : Versarien is everything superg and others have been saying here for two years | ![]() scrutable |
