Thanks willoic. One's short term memory really falters. I have now found the piece again. The Observer presented it as one of the ten most important changes in "the Decade that left us reeling" and that covered Sport, Transport, Food, Books etc. The graphene bit represented the biggest shock in Science.

That puts an even more significant weight on the isolated, global importance of Versarien, and reflects the gigantic expectations of VRS shareholders and how they are correct, though their understanding has been, and remains on a different plane to that in the rest of the population.

Bottom line : Versarien is everything superg and others have been saying here for two years

Graphene

The Observer22 Dec 2019Robin McKie
At the beginning of the decade, the 2010 Nobel physics prize was awarded to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov ‘for groundbreaking experiments regarding the two-dimensional material graphene’. Suddenly, everyone was talking about a material made of a single lattice layer of carbon atoms that had remarkable abilities to transmit heat and electricity while also being extremely strong. Suggested applications include improved camera sensors, DNA sequencing, gas sensing, material strengthening, and water desalination. To date, none of these ideas has been turned into devices but it took two centuries of work with silicon before engineers got the full potential out of that material.

A three page central feature section of the Observer yesterday detailed the ten most significant global economic and scientific advances of the decade now closing.

One of the sections was a quarter column on the expectations for graphene, though it was pointed out that none of the great companies or research institutes experimenting with and testing it, had yet a proven application for it. This was not to be expected the writer continued because it had taken a further ten years for applications to be found in the case of silicon.

Does anyone have a subscription to the on-line version who could cut and paste the piece? It would take it too long for me to do with ten bananas.

A happy Christmas to you all, and especially those entertaining with families. They are to be envied and applauded.

Contract negotiations are often about terms and conditions and lawyers have to be seen to do their bit. Big companies and nations will have their sticky terms and conditions but , yes, the discussions and warm up exchange of world views will have helped.

Presumably if what we have been told is true - *if* it is - and conversations about pricing etc are done up front before a collaboration is entered into, then presumably the commercials to put a deal together post-testing shouldn't take too long?

Richie good post. I can see NR now saying Hallelujah someone that gets VRS and the way we work.

EG they won't just want their product in things they will see to have their brand on it. They won't necessary get it but it will never be case of, that'll do.

It's all about long term thinking for the best outcome long term, not a quick hit and run balls up.

Looking forward to deals landing in the new year.

In my experience it is normal for new technologies (or new materials in this case) to go through several stages before the orders come in.

It is also normal for AIM companies to pimp their IP to an early cheap bid and get sucked into exclusivity and obscurity.

VRS are refusing to do this and instead are protecting the IP, selling samples and refusing exclusivity.

Quite right too for the Graphene Council's first and only Verified Graphene Producer.

I think NR’s strategy of building collaborations and links across a wide spectrum of industries spread over many parts of the globe is a good one. Solid foundations.

I also like the fact that Neill has such a large stake. Always a good signal.

I, for one, will give this as much time as is needed. The worst thing that owners of the company can do – that’s us folks – is pressurize the company into tarting itself for a cheap quick deal. All this does is give succour to the negotiators on the other side of the table making good deals less likely.

I see a bright future ahead for VRS holders! Merry Christmas
